The season 7 finale of The Flash was aired on July 20th, 2021 and fans have not stopped talking about it since.
It is phenomenal how this show, which is a part of the DCEU, has managed to hold onto CW’s highest ratings for years. So, us anticipating for a kickass Season 8 is not surprising.
Season 7 was quite cool. Barry Allen and gang gave the fandom quite a rollercoaster ride, particularly with the return of a certain someone.
So what does that tell us about Season 8? And more importantly, will our hero say goodbye to us in the upcoming season? There are a lot of questions, as is expected after the end of any season.
But don’t worry, we share the same curiosity. So here’s everything we know as of now in a flash!
Does Flash Die In Season 8?
It is hard to say a yes or a no to whether Flash dies before watching Season 8. Barry Allen is not yet dead in the show, but according to the comics, he dies in a “crisis of infinite earths”.
If the series follows the comics with the Season 8 storyline, then The Flash will die. But since he is the titular character in the series, it won’t be surprising if the writers take a bit of a creative liberty to change the fate of Barry Allen.
In the comics, Barry is forced to run as fast as he can to counteract the Anti-Monitor’s antimatter. In the process, he gets swallowed up by the Speed Force. Wally West comes in and takes over as the new DC speedster.
So if the writers are following this storyline, things will end for The Flash. Besides, Season 8 is most likely the last season of the series so the show might end in the tragic note.
Also, Grant Gustin’s contract ends with Season 8. So it is kind of clear, unless the contract is extended that he won’t be returning for another season. So that can mean either the Season 8 is the end of it all, or at least the end of Barry Allen.
Though I don’t think there’s much of a point to continue the show if The Flash dies. And I personally would not prefer such an ending. But as of now, we can only speculate. All I am saying is the possibility cannot be negated altogether.
Will Season 8 Be The Last Season Of The Flash?
Most probably, Season 8 is the final season of The Flash. Reports suggest so, but nothing has been officially confirmed as of writing this article.
More so, because Season 7 actually made us witness the earth shattering return of Barry Allen’s arch nemesis a.k.a Reverse-Flash. I think his return helps set up the base for Season 8 to become the final season of the long-running series.
There’s a reason why I think so. First off, we surely all agree that Reverse-Flash is the ultimate antagonist to have returned in the series.
Secondly, he shares one of the deepest personal connections with The Flash. Case in point: Thawne’s murder of Nora Allen which kicked off the series in the first place.
It makes perfect sense that the events of the show are coming into a full circle while Barry Allen battles Reverse-Flash in the final season.
Tom Cavanagh even hinted that The Flash and Thawne would settle their differences before the series ends. So that’s that. Also, Grant Gustin’s contract ends with Season 8, which is yet again a sign that this is the final season.
Yes, of course we can argue that a contract can be renewed. But consider the plot structure as of now: Iris’s looming pregnancy, Thawne’s return etc. I don’t think the rumors are false.
Also, the show is all set to say goodbye to two very important cast members: Tom Cavanagh, who played all versions of Harrison Wells and Eobard Thawne, and Carlos Valdes who played Cisco Roman.
The Flash Season 7 Finale Recap
The highlight of the finale episode of Season 7 is definitely the return of Reverse Flash, the most doting villain of the series.
The Season 7 finale, titled “Heart of the Matter, Part 2” , we see The Flash agreeing to give Godspeed what he wished for, organic speed.
Having the power of the Speed Force, the two fought each other. But Iris and Barry had a backup plan in place.
They wanted to get the Speed Force tap into the Negative Speed Force in order to bring back Reverse-Flash with the motive of defeating Godspeed, without putting Bart and Nora in danger.
But not to my surprise (or no one’s surprise for that matter), Reverse Flash turned on The Flash. He vowed to become the fastest speedster in the world again. In other words, the threat of Reverse-Flash’s return is clear.
