CW’s The Flash has a new villain, and he’s played by none other than Tony Curran.
The Flash will have a five-part special event titled Armageddon that will kick off the Season 8 premiere in November. Filming is currently underway, and the special event will see Curran as the supervillain Despero.
As reported by EW, in the special, Despero will pose a threat that forces Barry Allen and Team Flash to gather around other Arrowverse characters such as Black Lightning, Batwoman, Atom, Sentinel, and Reverse-Flash, among others.
Despero is described to be “a powerful and intelligent alien possessing incredible powers. After leaving his homeworld of Kalanor, he traveled to Earth on a deadly mission, one whose outcome will decide the fate of humankind and put him on a collision course with Team Flash.”
As far as comic history goes, Despero was created by Gardner Fox and Mike Sekowsky, who first appeared in the 1960 DC Comics’ Justice League of America #1. A recurring enemy of the Justice League, the hulking, three-eyed extraterrestrial fought the different version for decades in his quest to conquer Earth.
Curran’s acting credits include playing Vincent Van Gogh in Doctor Who (the most fantastic casting choice to date btw), Ray Donovan, Your Honor, Blade 2, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, and Underworld: Evolution.
(Curran is such a great actor that I might even side with the villain this time.)
The Flash Season 8 Armageddon will premiere on November 16 at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
