We might get to see the grand, blue waters of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef once again as Pixar is rumored to be developing a Finding Nemo series for Disney+.
This news was the highlighted “Rumor of the Week” in the newest episode of The DisInsider Show, where Editor-In-Chief Skyler Shuler and Co-Editor-In-Chief Derek Cornell revealed a bit about the show,
So this is straight out of Pixar…let’s just say over the next couple years you are going to still get original content after ‘Lightyear’….thanks to things like ‘Cars on the Road’ and ‘Dug Days,’ Pixar is diving into the world of series…..they are getting to animate and develop alongside Andrew Stanton, a ‘Finding Nemo’ series for Disney+.
Finding Nemo was first released in 2003 and instantly became one of Pixar’s most popular films. It follows a clownfish Marlin, who sets out on a journey to find Nemo, his only son, who got captured by humans. Accompanying him is a very forgetful blue tang fish, Dory.
The film got a sequel more than a decade later, in 2016, with Finding Dory. This film saw Marlin and Nemo work closely to find Dory, whose memory keeps blanking. This film dived into Dory’s past, where she came from, and her parents’ story.
It should be noted that this is just a rumor, and Disney hasn’t confirmed anything about such a spinoff yet. However, given that the company is revisiting many of its classics to add a new spin to those franchises, a Nemo spinoff wouldn’t be such a surprise.
Maybe this time, Nemo and Dory set out to find Marlin instead or focus on the coral reef’s destruction, where all the creatures of the sea unite to save the ocean. After all, Disney has a knack for teaching us about important values through intricate and bizarre storylines.
For now, the ones already confirmed and ready to arrive include Lightyear, which will expand the Toy Story franchise, set for a theatrical release on June 17, 2022.
This will be followed by the Disney+ series, Cars on the Road, which will “ka chow” onto our screens sometime later this year.
About Finding Nemo
Finding Nemo is a 2003 American animated film by Pixar Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. Directed by Andrew Stanton with co-direction by Lee Unkrich, the screenplay was written by Stanton, Bob Peterson, and David Reynolds. The film stars the voices of Albert Brooks, Ellen DeGeneres, Alexander Gould, Willem Dafoe, and Geoffrey Rush.
It tells the story of an overprotective clownfish named Marlin who, along with a regal blue tang named Dory, searches for his missing son Nemo. Along the way, Marlin learns to take risks and comes to terms with Nemo taking care of himself.
Finding Nemo is the first Pixar film to win the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. In 2008, the American Film Institute named it as the 10th greatest animated film ever made. A sequel, Finding Dory, followed in June 2016.
