The official trailer for The Witcher Season 2 is here! And my, are we about to meet a whole new bunch of characters from the novel and video games!
The short of it is that Season 2 will focus on how Geralt takes Ciri to Kaer Morhen, first to protect her and then to train her. The whole continent is in a frenzy, different sides and forces warring with each other for their respective motives.
All of this is linked to Ciri’s destiny of eventually becoming the Empress of Nilfgaard and bringing on the White Frost.
The journey to fulfilling this destiny is much more nuanced. On Geralt’s side, besides meeting his mentor Vesemir (whose own origin story was depicted in a Netflix animated film), we also meet other witchers who will help to train Ciri: Lambert (Paul Bullion), Eskel (Basil Eidenbenz), and Coën (Yasen Atour).
Then we have Nenneke, who warns Geralt about how dangerous Ciri’s powers are. This priestess of Melitele is someone Geralt trusts.
Season 1 gave us a glimpse into the elves’ dire condition. On that front, Francesca Findabair (Mecia Simson), queen of the elves of Dol Blathanna, will try to lead them to regain their power.
You will have also noticed that both Yen and Fringilla have been captured, with the former explaining in vain how Fringilla is nothing but a pawn in a plan she did not sign up for. If you look closely, you’ll see it’s the elves that have taken the two prisoners.
Now, of course, we have Cahir returning as the world-class adversary that he is. But he won’t be alone. Chris Fulton’s Rience will be the season’s new nemesis, wreaking havoc during his quest to find Ciri.
He’s also the one responsible for torturing our beloved Jaskier, among other horrible things.
An honorable mention of the monsters Bruxa and Leshen and a Geralt who looks absolutely fetching while fighting them.
The Witcher’s world is about to get even bigger, stranger, and wilder. But what’s a little bit of danger, eh? The Witcher Season 2 will premiere on Netflix on December 17.
