Geralt of Rivia is returning to slay some monsters in The Witcher season 2, but this time around, he might need a little bit of help with that.
In a bid to build up the hype even more before the upcoming season’s premiere on December 17, Netflix dropped an exclusive new fight clip on The Graham Norton Show.
In the clip, Geralt is seen dodging the branch-like tentacles/limbs of a leshen in the dark corridors of Kaer Morhen. As mentioned in The Last Wish, a leshy/leshen or spriggan is a forest monster that “lives only to kill.”
The creature keeps attacking Geralt from various directions as he chops every root with his sword. However, one of the roots gets to him, and within seconds, Geralt is trapped with his hands, bound, unable to move his sword.
Although the video is abrupt and without context, it is likely to be an extension of another clip where Geralt wakes Ciri up in the middle of the night and asks her to run as he drinks the cat potion, turning his eyes pitch-black.
Geralt mentions a Bruxa in that scene, so if he has to fight two monsters back-to-back, he really might need some help, and that’s when Ciri’s training skills might come in handy.
Fans have been waiting with bated breath for Season 2 of the hit Netflix fantasy series ever since we binge-watched it in a single day, two whole years ago.
It has been a long wait, but these scenes prove that it will be worth it. After all, Cavill himself promised this season will have more book-accurate details. From the little that can be seen in the clip, the design for the leshen seems inspired by the Wild Hunt video game.
In an interview with TV Guide’s Sci-Fi & Fantasy Magazine, showrunner Lauren S. Hissrich had assured book and game fans that Season 2 will feature more monsters,
For instance, Blood of Elves lacks monsters. There’s just not very many. But we know from the games that people really like to see Geralt battling monsters, so we continued adding more monsters to Season 2.
This comes just a short while after The Witcher official account posted a clip of Geralt fighting another monster known as the Myriapod.
There will most definitely be other, scarier monsters incoming, now that Geralt has to protect and train Ciri. So, Season 2 will have the Witcher drinking the potions more often than he did in the previous season.
The Witcher Season 2 arrives on Netflix on December 17, 2021.
