Netflix released the much-awaited teaser of Bridgerton season 2 on Valentine’s Day. Season 2 is all set to premiere on 25th March, 2022. The 73-second teaser offers a brief glimpse into Anthony Bridgerton’s quest for a suitable wife.
Season 2 will be based on Julia Quinn’s second novel in the Bridgerton series, titled The Viscount Who Loved Me. Each book in the Bridgerton series focuses on the love story of one Bridgerton sibling. Season 1 focused on Daphne Bridgerton’s love story, which was based on Quinn’s first novel of the series, The Duke and I.
Now that Daphne’s love story with Simon already got its happy ending, it is now time for season 2 to focus on the other Bridgerton siblings – Anthony Bridgerton.
Anthony played an important role in season 1 as Daphne’s protective brother who had an intense dislike for the Duke of Hastings, his sister’s husband. In fact, the Bridgerton sibling also had a short but tragic love story in season 1.
As per Netflix’s official description of the plot of season 2, the story will focus on Anthony’s love-story with Kate (Simone Ashley). An earlier trailer of season 2 revealed the Kate and Anthony’s love-hate romance and the pair is being portrayed as the central couple of season 2.
The short teaser promises a return to the royal, fantasy world from season 2 along with Lady Whistledown making a comeback. Season 1 revealed the identity of the anonymous gossip columnist as Penelope Featherington, who we see in the recently released teaser.
Interestingly, as per Quinn’s original books, Penelope too is supposed to have a love story with Colin Bridgerton. Season 1 had some build-up towards this, so a dedicated season for Colin and Penelope can be expected in the future.
Cast members such as Phoebe Dynevor, Nicola Coughlan and Golda Rosheuvel are all set to return for season 2. However, Rege-Jean Page, who played Simon the Duke of Hastings, will not be returning for a second season.
Created by Chris Van Dusen and produced by Emmy winner Shonda Rhimes, Bridgerton has been one of Netflix’s most watched shows and has already been renewed for a seasons 3 and 4. Going by the books, the series should have 8 or 9 seasons if the makers focus on one love story each season.
You can stream Bridgerton season 1 on Netflix.
