The hype for Battlefield 6 is real as developments, confirmed and unconfirmed, about the game have been popping up almost everyday. The newest update (unconfirmed) comes from renown leaker Tom Henderson (you guessed right) who says that the 6th installment in the popular first-person shooter series might not have a Story/Campaign mode.
Due to games like Call of Duty: Warzone and Fortnite, Multiplayer and Battle Royale set-ups are all the rage so this news might not be a big disappointment to a majority of FPS enthusiasts. But those that enjoy an immersive Story mode – which is something Battlefield is known for – are sure to feel a little let down. But that is only if this news eventually turns out to be true.
Henderson cited no mention of a Story mode in the recent EA investors call as they’re reason to believe that the game may be focused on multiplayer exclusively.
According to Henderson, it was odd that the company spoke nothing of the game’s story mode while dropping so much information about the game’s other facets like how it will be a cross-gen title and how it will be a “special” experience on new-gen consoles.
They also said that this was the first EA earnings call (prior to a reveal) where EA did not mention the campaign coming to a new Battlefield title.
It’s important to remember that this is all speculative at the moment. Henderson themselves said that no mention of a story mode “Could be something… Could be nothing.” It’s completely plausible that EA is withholding information on Battlefield’s Story mode because they might have something big planned or that they’re doing it simply to capitalize on the game’s hype.
Additionally, if we’re using the lack of mentions as evidence, then the game might not have a Battle Royale as that wasn’t mentioned in the call either. But most rumours indicate that Battle Royale will indeed come to Battlefield 6; it would be foolish for EA to not include one seeing how much love the mode gets. So, it is important that you take all these rumored updates with a big helping of your favourite salt.
EA and DICE have made no comment on Henderson’s claims. However, seeing that most of game development in 2020 fell prey to the Covid-19 pandemic, fans should control their expectations and be ready for delays, missing features and so on.
Battlefield 6 has no release date at the moment but the game is set to be revealed next month.
