In the ongoing struggle of the heroes against the greatest villain, All For One, each chapter takes the battle to the next level. Previously, we saw Class 1-A joining forces using Kurogiri’s portal to help Deku, who had given up One For All. Despite his miserable state, Deku still has a flicker of hope burning within him.
Chapter 422 of the series will continue from where the previous one left off. It’s scheduled to be released on Monday, May 13, 2024. However, spoilers have already surfaced, and things are looking very emotional.
Class 1-A vs All For One
My Hero Academia Chapter 422 is titled “Izuku Midoriya—Rising.” It highlights Deku’s journey as a hero without the use of his Quirk.
The chapter begins with Aoyama falling behind Deku while AFO uses his tentacles to destroy a portion of the ground. In this critical situation, Aizawa asks Shirakumo to open another portal. However, Shirakumo cannot use his quirk due to his weakened condition.
Meanwhile, the other heroes keep attacking All For One to create an opening for Deku to reach him. Suddenly, AFO readies another “full release” attack, but this time, he is certain he won’t fail. He is no longer overcome by emotions. AFO shoots a laser at Deku, but thankfully, Hagakure blocks it.
Yaoyoruzu created a railgun that Kaminari charged up with his electricity. However, AFO was able to block the attack. Then, AFO used his black tentacles to attack Deku. But, the other heroes rescued him, urging Deku not to waste his energy yet. Shoji and Tsuyu then grabbed hold of Deku and propelled him forward.
As Deku moved ahead, Kirishima and Ashido blocked another powerful attack from AFO. These actions left AFO confused as to why he couldn’t defeat the heroes, even though they were too weak to move. After some time, AFO realized Deku’s vulnerability inspired his friends to stand up and fight for him.
Gentle created a trampoline for Deku to launch himself towards AFO. Teny and Lila helped him get closer to AFO, and as they did, Deku finally understood what Ochaco meant on their first day at U.A. about the nickname “Deku,” making her think of “do your best.”
Deku is the Last Hope of Victory in My Hero Academia Chapter 422
When All For One attempted to use another attack, the hole in his hand started bleeding, leaving him more confused. Ochaco and other characters cheered for Deku in the helicopter while the US President ordered all of their heroes to be sent to Japan to help with the battle.
Meanwhile, the US pilots tended to All Might’s wounds, and he reflected on how seeing Deku run that day allowed him to do the same. Although it is unclear to which event All Might is referring, it could either be the day Deku ran to save Bakugo or the same day referred to from the future. On that day, however, Deku became the greatest hero in All Might’s eyes.
The final slide shows Deku landing a punch on All For One while his mother, Inko Midoriya, cheers for him. This might be his final punch, using the residual flame of One For All.
