Everything You Need to Know About Sukuna’s Fingers in Jujutsu Kaisen

The King of Curses, Ryomen Sukuna’s severed fingers carry the remains of his soul, making them a hotspot for potential danger. With all his fingers severed and spread across Japan, his existence has only persevered and grown stronger for centuries.

The entirety of Jujutsu Kaisen is built around these cursed objects, both a threat and a purpose in the series. Here’s everything you need to know about Sukuna’s fingers:

Significance of Sukuna’s Fingers in Jujutsu Kaisen

Sukuna’s fingers have fragments of his soul, with parts of his powers coursing through them. These fingers, each equivalent to a special-grade curse, lure other curses towards themselves, offering more power.

Since the fingers don’t have a specific pattern following their dispersion, the sudden awakening of long-dormant curses signals their presence nearby. Once consumed, the fingers grant the consumer incredible powers and heightened abilities.

How Did Sukuna’s Fingers Turn Into Curse Objects? Origin

Around a thousand years ago, Sukuna let Kenjaku divide his soul into cursed objects so he could be reincarnated in the future. Due to the high cursed energy, it was nearly impossible to destroy them, so Sukuna continued to live on.

Over centuries, the fingers have attracted curses to feed on their powers, thus growing stronger. Tokyo Jujutsu High School was in possession of six of these cursed objects.

Collection and Consumption of Sukuna’s Fingers

  • Sukuna Regains His Power Slowly

After eating the first finger, Itadori’s fate was handed to the Jujutsu Society. After realizing that Itadori can control his body despite his soul co-existing with Sukuna, Gojo assigns him to consume all of Sukuna’s fingers. After the task is finished, Itadori’s execution would mark an end to Sukuna as well.

Throughout the series, Itadori has consumed a total of fifteen fingers. After the first finger he consumed, Gojo offers Yuji a second finger to test his control. Sukuna consumes the third one after retrieving it from a cursed spirit.

Fushiguro acquires another one of Sukuna’s fingers and Sukuna consumes it, making a total of four fingers in Itadori’s possession. During the Shibuya Incident, Nanako and Mimiko find an unconscious Itadori and feed him the fifth finger to summon Sukuna.

  • Overwhelming Consumption

Jogo, who had ten fingers in his possession, feeds them all to Itadori. By the end of the Shibuya Incident Arc, Itadori has a total of fifteen fingers. However, Sukuna reincarnates in Fushiguro’s body and consumes four more fingers retrieved by Uraume.

  • Sukuna Full Power Returns

Unable to find the last finger, Sukuna substitutes the last finger by eating his own mummified corpse. Gojo had hidden away the previous finger, which is later revealed to have been consumed by Rika, allowing Yuta to copy Sukuna’s Shrine and Cleave.

How Strong Are Sukuna’s Fingers?

Sukuna’s fingers are strong enough to be classified as special-grade cursed objects, which means that they possess cursed energy equal to that of special-grade curses.

The fingers were indestructible to even the likes of Gojo Satoru, the strongest sorcerer of their generation. Despite being sealed for so long, the fingers still posed as a threat as they attract curses wherever they are.

Can Anyone Consume Sukuna’s Fingers?

Sukuna’s fingers cannot be devoured by just anyone as they are an instant kill for normal humans if ingested. Moreover, cursed spirits cannot become vessels that can host Sukuna’s soul.

Itadori’s ability to hold his consciousness and not let Sukuna incarnate was unexpected. He became a cage for Sukuna’s soul and could keep control of his body for the most part. Not everyone was capable of this feat, thus making Itadori a rare case.
