Again, the emotional moments hit home. I wonder how a comedy-ecchi anime is able to pull off such great moments without being overdramatic and cliche. The duo met three flight attendants and an old man.

This was going well for them, but things took an ugly turn by the second half of the episode, and slowly, their happy party turned tragic because of a zombie attack, turning all the flight attendants into zombies.

2. Episode 5 Speculations

Akira will decide on his dream in episode 5 of Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead, titled “Hero of the Dead.”

The thought of what Yukari said to him before dying is continuously motivating Akira to find his dream and strive for it. After much thinking, he decides to become a superhero, and the two will head for an aquarium.

He will get a suit from there and will set out to protect innocents. He will meet Shizuka again and, in an attempt to impress her, he will turn the situation awkward.

Ryuuzaki and Akira enjoy their full-time vacation. Ryuuzaki makes fun of Akira for failing to get a date. Akira takes it as a challenge and decides to get a date on that very day.

Ryuuzaki uses Akira’s list to write his wishes too. He writes that he wants to be a stand-up comedian. They both decide to go and get a widescreen tv for themselves.

They get trapped on the road while an uncontrolled tanker rushes at them. Akira uses his bike skills to take them underground. There are zombies there too. They rush to a store and manage to save themselves.

In the store, they meet a bunch of people who are terrified of the duo at first. Ryuuzaki calms them down, and they all sit together to have some ham and beer.

The duo comes to know that the three ladies sitting in front of them are flight attendants. They are delighted to realize that they are winning and dining with flight attendants. The three girls introduce themselves as Yukari, Reika, and Maki.

Akira is unable to strike up a conversation with Yukari, so he decides to drink a full bottle of wine in one breath. This lightens the mood, and they enjoy their time together.

Akira starts vomiting profusely after drinking too much. Ryuuzaki enjoys some fun time with Maki. Unfortunately, Reiko gets bitten by the man accompanying them. Hearing some screams, Ryuuzaki and Maki go out to check.

They find Reiko has turned into a zombie. She immediately attacks Ryuuzaki, but Maki gets bitten instead. Ryuuzaki hits Reika with an object to put her down. Akira and Yukari strike a bond.

They both talk about their harsh lives and are bonding when the old man suddenly attacks Yukari. She gets infected, and Akira is not ready to leave her, but she insists him to leave. She tells him that being a flight attendant was her dream job.

Akira wishes he would find his dream job soon. He runs away. He finds Ryuuzaki, who is carrying a giant widescreen tv. They both get out of the place and head home.

Back home, Akira decides to revive his childhood dream and fulfill it.

Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead is a dystopian horror-comedy manga series written by Haro Aso and illustrated by Kotaro Takata. It has been serialized in Shogakukan’s seinen manga magazine Monthly Sunday Gene-X since October 2018 and is collected into 13 volumes.

The manga was also nominated for the Eisner Award in two categories in 2022.

The story follows a 24-year-old Akira Tendou who has lost all his motivation and spirit due to working for an exploitative company. One day he witnesses his landlord eating another tenant and sees that the city has been infested with zombies, but instead of being afraid, Akira has never felt more alive. He sets out to survive the apocalypse with a bucket list and makes a few friends along the way.
