Takeru and Izzy find out the secret of the haunted house in chapter 59 of Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead, titled “Horror Mansion of the Dead (2).”

After wandering down a secret basement to complete their Scare Dare, Takeru and Izzy find themselves in a room filled with coffins. They find Mercy’s body in one of them and immediately try to escape the house. Right outside, they find two more corpses.

Before they can even think, Sugizo chases them out of the house with a swinging hammer. The two get captured and wounded, prepared as a meal for their grandma.

3. Chapter 60 Speculations

Against all odds, Takeru and Izzy have again escaped the impossible and made a run for it. However, they must still figure a way out of the sealed house.

I. The door’s a trap

Izzy has played a lot of horror games and knows this pattern. A surprise is designed to kill the first-time player somewhere in the house, which is likely the door. It only opened after Sugizo saw the two in the room, making it even more likely that he was trying to lure them into the room.

II. The group arrives

After their endless bickering, the rest of the group finally realized that Takeru and Izzy were missing. Now, they must trace their steps and try to find the haunted house. If the light is still flashing, their mission is much easier.

4. Chapter 59 Recap

Everybody in the group continues to argue before finally realizing that Takemina and Izzy have disappeared. The two find a secret basement and decide that it would check off “Have a Scare Dare” on the list. They find themselves on a cold cave pathway and walk along it.

A sudden noise appears from behind and scares them both. This leads to them finding a secret room filled with boxes. Takeru realizes they’re all coffins and tries to stop Izzy from opening one. She counts it down and opens it to find Mercy’s bloody corpse.

Stumbling backward, Takeru finds a bunch of skulls scattered on the floor. They both decide to escape as fast as possible before they die. After leaving the house, they find Kazuki and Selena’s gruesome murder scene in the van.

Izzy and Takeru turn around to see a massive man with a hammer approaching them slowly. They remain stunned in shock until he reaches close enough to start swinging the weapon. The two get chased through the entire courtyard, screaming the whole time. 

Eventually, Izzy gets caught as he catches up to them. Takeru gets hit by a branch after getting distracted and gets knocked to the ground. Both of them wake up bound to a chair in the house. The two owners of the home greet them and laugh at their situation.

The grandpa says it’s their turn to be served to Granny next and orders Sugizo to get her. He brings out his grandma, bound by a rope and fully zombified. Along with her, a half-eaten Mercy is also dragged along the floor. 

Sugizo explains that he has to feed Granny humans now since she became a zombie. Grandpa orders Sugizo to squash the two, and he begins to swing the big hammer. Takeru freaks out and kicks the table in front, throwing the grandpa off.

The ropes get loosened, and the two make a run for it. Takeru finds all the doors locked and every exit sealed off. Sugizo eventually finds them, but they close the door before he enters the room. Izzy notices a door open in the distance, but Takeru hesitates.

Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead is a dystopian horror-comedy manga series written by Haro Aso and illustrated by Kotaro Takata. It has been serialized in Shogakukan’s seinen manga magazine Monthly Sunday Gene-X since October 2018 and is collected into 13 volumes.

The story follows a 24-year-old Akira Tendou who has lost all his motivation and spirit due to working for an exploitative company. One day he witnesses his landlord eating another tenant and sees that the city has been infested with zombies, but instead of being afraid, Akira has never felt more alive. He sets out to survive the apocalypse with a bucket list and makes a few friends along the way.
