Akira and Shizuka split up in chapter 56 of Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead, titled “Dolphins of the Dead.”
It was a painful chapter. Akira and Shizuka met a doctor named Joichiro Sakaki. He seems to be a good guy who helps patients having any disease, apart from being a zombie.
Shizuka got a change of heart after finding someone who shares the same passion as her. Sakaki offered her to get go along with him on a different journey, and she couldn’t miss the opportunity.
Akira was happy for her and gladly accepted splitting up. They didn’t get to say goodbye to each other, but it was for the best.

3. Chapter 57 Speculations
Akira will try to move on with his life without Shizuka in chapter 57 of Zom 100: Bucket List of the Dead.
The previous chapter had a sad conclusion, but we can’t say it was bad. Shizuka wanted to be of help to Sakaki and reach out to people, and Akira fully supported that. No one is in the wrong here, but I don’t think this is the end of them.
Shizuka might get back to her friends to say goodbye one final time. We can’t just expect a sudden split between them. However, it won’t be good if Shizuka sacrifices her dream for Akira’s sake. No one wants that, but there is certainly more to the situation than what meets the eye.
4. Chapter 56 Recap
Akira and Shizuka meet a mysterious man, but Shizuka seems quite impressed with him. Turns out he is a doctor named Joichiro Sakaki, and they all are in a pharmacy where he is treating patients.
He travels around treating patients and advertising on the radio. He can’t do anything about the apocalypse, but he wants his patients to live a bit easier by treating them of common ailments.
She asks Sakaki if there is something she can assist him with. He gladly accepts her help. Akira tells her that they should go back as others are waiting for them.
She tells him to go and fill them in if he wants. She goes on to assist Sakaki. He takes her to the medicine storeroom. He tells them about painkillers and antibiotics.
He starts going into detail but immediately apologizes to her for all that. She tells him that she also wants to be a doctor, but she regrets not having better medical knowledge.
He tells her that he would also prefer saving a life in front of him rather than going after an ideal. She finds him intelligent and calm and completely opposite to Akira.
She thinks that she desires to follow the same path as Dr. Sakaki. Seeing the opportunity, Sakaki asks her something. Shizuka goes out and meets Akira, asking what he would do if she decided to split with everyone and go on a different journey with Sakaki.
Before meeting Akira, Sakaki asked her if she would like to go with him and assist him. He is in need of someone like her as they both want to follow the same path.
He was about to leave the same day, so he wanted her to decide what was in the best interest for her. Akira tells her that the things he does are important to him, just like the things she wants to do are important to her.
Akira says that it is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and if she regrets not taking it, then he is happy to support her decision. She is a bit sad that he is not trying to stop her, but she knows it’s part of what she likes about him.
Akira feels happy for her and finds her glowing. He silently takes his leave. He is not happy about saying goodbye to her with a smile on his face, but he can’t bring himself to say goodbye to her with a smile.
He is unable to stop thinking about her and starts crying loudly. He heads for the beach with a face full of tears, crying his heart out.
