Since the official announcement by Nickelodeon star Jamie Lynn Spears about her revival as the titular character in the network’s Zoey 101 sequel film, we haven’t had much news about the project. Nancy Hower is directing, and production began early this year with many old faces returning, and the show is aiming for a summer release in 2023.
Zoey 102 will serve as a sequel to the series, and EW gives us the exclusive first look at the film, with Spears front, right, and center. The new images give us our first look at Zoey and the whole Zoey 101 gang. I’ll tag the photos throughout the article, so keep an eye out while reading.
The film also introduces three new characters, Archer, Kelly, and Todd, played by Owen Thiele, Thomas Lennon, and Dean Geyer, respectively. Some of the images are captured at a wedding reception, though it’s unclear who is getting hitched.
Along with Jamie Lynn Spears’ Zoey, Quinn Pensky (Erin Sanders), Chase Matthews (Sean Flynn), Logan Reese (Matthew Underwood), Michael Barret (Christopher Massey), Stacey Dillsen (Abbey Wild), and Mark Dell Figgalo (Jack Salvatore) are also returning.
For now, we have no news of other returning cast members, so it’s safe to expect that the nostalgic ride will be limited to the aforementioned characters and their stories. Unlike iCarly’s return, thanks to Paramount, who is also responsible for Zoey 102, the upcoming sequel has some bad reputation to beat.
Dan Schneider, who was accused of several cases of sexual harassment and misconduct at Nickelodeon, is not connected to Zoey 102. Despite the lack of his involvement, the revival of a series he wrote is sparking some conversations.
Apart from that, Spears has also faced backlash for her involvement in the conservatorship of her sister, Britney Spears. All this negative light might overshadow any nostalgia on the viewers’ part upon revisiting these beloved characters in Zoey 102.
