Matt Reeves’ Batman movie seems to be progressing at a steady pace. The cast of the untitled Batman film is slowly taking shape and there are numerous updates on the supporting cast of the film. In recent weeks, we’ve learned that Jeffrey Wright will be playing Commissioner Jim Gordon and that Jonah Hill is eyeing a villain’s role yet to be revealed (Penguin or the Riddler maybe?)
Fans have been speculating about Catwoman, a role many actresses have played with none of them being particularly memorable. The stand-alone Catwoman movie was one big disaster and hopefully, Matt Reeves’s Batman will help us forget the past!
According to Deadline, Zoe Kravitz has snagged the part with The Hollywood Reporter, saying that she beat out several other talented individuals, including Ana de Armas, Ella Balinska, and Eiza Gonzalez. And though she may not have been most people’s first choice for Selina Kyle, Kravitz is far from a bad pick.
Twitter, inevitably began scrutinising Zoe Kravitz and whether or not she is fit for the part. The person of color thing seems to be popping up here and there since Catwoman is originally a white character.
Catwoman is Caucasian in most comics although Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli had a black Catwoman in their Batman: Year One comic book. Subsequent creators changed her back to white ultimately. The ethnicity or race shouldn’t matter as long as the role is delivered par excellence.
