With the prequel Army of Thieves premiering this week on the streaming platform, Army of the Dead 2 has already been confirmed, and Snyder has big plans.

In a recent interview with GamesRadar+ and Total Film, the director talked about all the fan theories that have been up for discussion since the film first dropped in May this year.

Talking about the viability of the popular time loop theory for the sequel, Snyder said,

I’m a huge fan of this mythological understory. All your time loop fun that you can have, there’s a lot of cool enhancements that are baked in now. I can’t wait to make the sequel to Army of the Dead so that we can see how then all of those things manifest.

The whole basis of the time loop theory lies in a scene where Dieter and Vanderohe see a collection of rotting human skeletons near the safe the team is trying to crack. Vanderohe then suggests that maybe they are caught in a time loop, repeating the heist over and over again.

However, it’s also worth noting that Dieter isn’t exactly killed off in the end. While talking to Inverse, Snyder spoke about Dieter’s fate at the end of the first film,

But the real adventure would be to see what happened to him when that safe door closed. Did he get killed by Zeus or not? What happened? We don’t see him die on camera, and there’s still some time left.

I won’t tell you what happens in Army of the Dead 2 — aka Planet of the Dead — but let’s just say that there’s a chance Dieter survives. And there’s a chance that brush with death would have caused him to want to find a jailed Gwendoline.

The prequel will take the audience for a series of heists around Europe and tell Dieter’s story before the Las Vegas heist, on the verge of the zombie apocalypse.

Army Of Thieves lands on Netflix on October 29.
