Shazam! Fury of the Gods is a sequel to the hit 2019 DCEU movie, Shazam!
Originally slated to be released in April 2022, the film faced numerous delays, particularly due to CVOID-related complications and also due to the reshuffling of release dates at Warner Bros.
It has now been revealed that Shazam! Fury of the Gods is scheduled to hit theaters this December.
While the release date is still far off, its publicity campaign seems to have already begun.
DC and Warner Bros are set to attend Comic-Con physically for the first time since 2019, and they’re busy filling up their schedule with shows like The Sandman, Harley Quinn Season 3, and other upcoming projects that celebrate the revival of a few beloved comic book series.
There is already hype surrounding Dwayne Johnson’s SDCC panel for Black Adam, a character that was to appear in the original Shazam! movie.
Now the sequel to Shazam! has been added to the lineup as well.
In a new sneak peek for Shazam! Fury of the Gods, Zachary Levi’s titular hero teases the audience ahead of the follow-up to the highly anticipated film.
The official Shazam! Twitter account posted a video announcing that Fury of the Gods will be at this year’s SDCC. The clip doesn’t show much besides brief shots of Shazam’s boots and gauntlets before cutting to the hero almost entirely cloaked in shadow.
He asks, “Sup?” and just as it seems like there’s going to be new footage from the sequel revealed, he follows that up with, “Me again. Just being a tease.”
Check out the tweet below!
While little is revealed in the teaser, Shazam’s playful tone seems to be in line with what audiences have seen so far. Considering that the superhero is actually Billy Batson, a teenager with superpowers, Shazam’s humor will probably lean toward his style.
Although the teaser is a fun, little glimpse of the movie, it is undeniable that many people were hoping for an actual look at the movie.
With so many delays, the sequel’s SDCC presentation will be in the spotlight.
In addition to DC, Marvel Studios will also be returning for the first time in three years at the convention.
Marvel has not yet officially announced its panels but we can expect glimpses of upcoming movies such as Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, among others.
With the multitude of panels being held by DC over the course of the convention, Shazam! Fury of the Gods will have to shine on the main stage if it wants to impress movie-goers.
