It has been three months since Kazuki Takahashi, the famed creator of Yu-Gi-Oh!, passed away in an unexpected incident. He was an inspiration to many and left a void in our hearts and the manga industry forever.
Yu-Gi-Oh! series’ protagonist, Yugi Mutou, is known to be a kind soul who is always helping others at the cost of his own life. It’s not very surprising that the person who created such a character also follows the same principles and morals.
In an article by the U.S. Military newspaper, Stars and Stripes, Army Major Robert Bourgeau has revealed that Kazuki Takahashi died a hero. The mangaka drowned as a result of helping people caught in a riptide in Mermaid’s Grotto in Onna, Okinawa.
Bourgeau, a diving instructor, was trying to save people from the riptide and was unaware of Takahashi’s involvement. He was informed about the deed later by his diving students, who saw Takahashi disappear beneath the waves.
Despite the Japan Coast Guard declining to confirm this, many solid and sword eyewitnesses prove Takahashi’s act of heroism. Takahashi helped Robert save three people, including an 11-year-old girl, her mother, and a U.S. soldier trapped in the riptide.
His body was found on July 6, about 300 meters (about 1,000 feet) offshore in Awa, Nago city in Okinawa. The army also detailed his activities on that day, confirming his involvement and aid in saving people from the disaster.
Robert Bourgeau, now nominated for a soldier’s medal, stated that Takahashi is a hero who died trying to save someone else. He also added that the conditions were really rough and that the soldier barely made it out of there himself.
As if Takahashi’s contributions to the world of manga and entertainment weren’t enough, this is another thing that makes this man a legend.
Takahashi’s influence will forever prevail over people. Whether they’re fans of his work or not, they are now definitely fans of the hero he has become.
