From the creator who brought you Beverly Hills, 90210, and Emily in Paris, comes the new Netflix romantic comedy, Uncoupled. It is a tale of a 40-something gay man who gets blindsided by his partner and now is in the market for love, once again.
As compelling as the story is, the cast is equally important to reel the audience in. In the case of Uncoupled, you may already know that Neil Patrick Harris stars as the protagonist.
But who are the rest of the cast members in the show? Who do they play? More importantly, where have you seen them before? Here’s everything you need to know:
1 Neil Patrick Harris as Michael
Neil Patrick Harris’ glory days began during his time at Doogie Howser, MD, but he came to truly legendary status with How I Met Your Mother.
NPH now headlines Uncoupled as Michael Lawson, a real estate agent in New York City. His partner of 17 years, Colin, unexpectedly walks out on him, leaving this 40-something-year-old to navigate heartbreak and moving on in a city that’s not conducive to either.
2 Tuc Watkins as Colin
You may find Watkins’ face familiar as he’s appeared in a bunch of popular projects like Desperate Housewives, Black Monday, Parks and Recreation, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The Mummy, The Boys in the Band, and more.
Here, he plays the 50-year-old Colin, who leaves Michael confused and lonely as he himself begins a new chapter of life.
3 Tisha Campbell as Suzanne
In the ’90s, Tisha made her name with the House Party movies. Ever since, she has been a stronghold in comedy, with shows like My Wife and Kids, Rita Rocks, and Dr. Ken.
Tisha plays Suzanne, Michael’s supportive colleague, a close friend, and personal cheerleader. I must say, you will not get tired of hearing her talk!
4 Emerson Brooks as Billy
Brooks has proved his prowess in the voice acting department, having been part of over 50 video games, which include Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto 5, and Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Keep an eye out for him the next time you watch Captain America: Civil War and Super 8.
Brooks is Billy on Uncoupled, Michael’s super popular friend whose claim to fame is being a charming weatherman and an even more charismatic Casanova.
5 Brooks Ashmanskas as Stanley
You may have not seen much of Ashmanskas on screen, since he’s a Broadway veteran with an impressive repertoire of plays. You may spot him in small roles in works like Julie and Julia and The Good Wife.
In Uncoupled, Ashmanskas stars as Stanley. Stanley is part of Michael’s entourage as well. He is an art dealer who is low on luck in his own game of love and looks to support Michael with his experiences of being single in NYC.
6 Marcia Gay Harden as Claire
Her first breakthrough role was in the Coen brothers’ Miller’s Crossing, after which she went on to do Pollock, a role that won her an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress.
Gay Harden’s Claire fills up Uncoupled’s idiosyncratic quota. She’s an uber-rich divorcee who has nothing in common with Michael other than the fact that both their partners left them on the cold hard ground. Oh, and that he has to sell off her apartment quickly!
7 Nic Rouleau as Tyler
Rouleau too is more heard of among Broadway enthusiasts, although he did appear in a minor role in Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.
Tyler is Michael’s young nemesis, with both age and connections on his side. But will they ever be able to see face-to-face? That would indeed be interesting to watch.
8 André De Shields as Jack
Last but certainly not least is André De Shields, who’s rightfully known as a theatric legend. His latest achievement was his Broadway role as Hermes in “Hadestown,” for which he won the 2019 Tony Award for Best Actor in a Featured Role in a Musical and the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.
In Uncoupled, he plays Jack, Michael’s kind neighbor who always offers him guidance, especially after the Colin debacle. De Shields does not have a major role, but is nonetheless a pleasure to watch on screen!
