Episode 8 serves as the mid-season finale to Young Sheldon Season 6. The episode deals with Sheldon’s college life, focusing on his recent scholarship database creation idea. We also get an exciting plot involving Connie, Mandy, and Georgie.
The episode continues the tradition of two major storylines.
Sheldon is badgered by President Hagmeyer, Dr. Linkletter, and his parents over the patent of his database. Meanwhile, pastor Jeff gives Connie and Mandy a tough time by forcing them to remove all the “indecent” films from the video store.
Let’s get into the events happening in the mid-season finale.
Everybody Takes Advantage of Sheldon
The first sequence of Episode 8 features Sheldon’s principal trying to get Sheldon’s parents to sign papers that will allow her to profit from Sheldon’s invention of the grant database. Specifically, it would enable the University to own 90% of the profits.
Dr. Linketter also tried to weasel his way into getting a piece of the financial pie, claiming that he, too, is entitled to a share of profits as he helped inspire the idea. Even his parents are visibly interested in the economic benefits of the website.
We see everyone get their lawyers and their desperate attempts to bribe Sheldon into giving them their way. Sheldon gets frustrated. Mary reaches out to him to apologize and tells him to take some time to decide what he wants to do. He ultimately chooses to cut everyone out and make the database himself.
He is not at all interested in monetizing it. Sheldon has a solution to every problem!
The episode didn’t show George’s response to Sheldon’s nonchalance. However, one can only assume he won’t be happy about losing money since his family is financially struggling.
Connie and Mandy Deal With Pastor Jeff
The scene shifts to the laundromat before moving to Meemaw’s video store, where George Jr and Mandy work. Over on this side of the story, a church parishioner complains that the video store is immoral for renting out movies like Basic Instinct with “sexual content” in them.
Mandy quickly points out that the content is mild, and if it goes against her principles, she should not rent the film.
We see Pastor Jeff and others from the church push people to sign petitions against the video store’s sexual content outside the store. Meemaw comes in and sprays the protestors, including Pastor Jeff, with the fire extinguisher.
Connie and Mandy are reluctant to give in to Pastor Jeff, but surprisingly, Georgie is responsible. He reminds them to stand down and not bring unwanted attention to the illegal business they run in the back.
On this front, Connie even visits Pastor Jeff to apologize and reassures him that they’ve taken down Basic Instinct. However, he instigates the matter again by stating that other movies from the store should also be discarded.
Along with getting spurned like this, Connie, Mandy, and Georgie receive a surprise visit from a local TV station that wants to cover “the store renting indecent movies.” Ultimately, George states that the store does no such thing and removes all the “unacceptable” movies, leaving the store barefoot.
Thankfully, Connie and Mandy do find a solution. Upon checking their customer database, they discover that the most “pious” parishioners (Including Paster Jeff’s wife) have rented these very indecent movies several times.
Meemaw pays a visit to Pastor Jeff’s house and informs him about the leverage she has over him. She tells him that his wife and other church members had rented sexual movies from them. Following that, we see Jeff beg for forgiveness, and he finally backs down, accepting his defeat.
