Yellowjackets season 2 has been progressing speedily, and we are closer to a compelling finale with each episode. With season 3 confirmed, fans don’t have to worry about the cannibalistic mystery ending anytime soon, but the season 2 finale can easily flip the story.
While we can’t always be sure what happens on the Showtime series, Ashley Lyle has confirmed a neat tidbit for the viewers. In an interview with Collider, the show’s co-creator explained that two scenes from season 1 will finally pay off in the upcoming final episodes of the current season. Read the scenes she points out, and don’t worry; they’re spoiler free:
I will not give the context yet because it is spoilery, but there is a moment at the keg party in the pilot where Natalie is tripping, and she sees Misty, and that is something that we planted very early on that will pay off later.
There’s a throwaway line in; which episode was it? It was in Season 1, and it was, I think, Episode 6 or 7 somewhere around there. But there’s a throwaway line where Travis is playing solitaire or trying to play solitaire, and Natalie tells him that there are no queens in that deck, and that was a plant very much for this season.
I would like to explore this spoiler context, so if you’ve not caught up to the series, I suggest you stop reading here. Lyle’s comment about the Natalie line mentions no queens in the deck and how it was a deliberate line that alludes to something in season 2.
Ashley Lyle might be hinting that the ongoing season’s final episodes will finally reveal the Antler Queen’s identity. Even the previous scene she mentioned signals the point I’m trying to make! After all, it was in the pilot when Natalie saw the cannibalistic sacrifice while high on drugs and, in the midst of all of it, the Antler Queen.
Many fans believe Lottie is the mystery “spirit,” owing to her schizophrenic visions and the interesting season 1 scene where she donned the antlers and led the girls to sacrifice her boyfriend. Her cult-like camp and her building influence on the group also strengthen the possibility, but we’ll have to wait a while to know the real truth.
The other interesting character Lyle namedrops is Misty. She’s the only one who decidedly can’t be the Antler Queen because she was the only one without a mask in the pilot scene. And yet, she may be the key to everything that went down since then – I mean, someone being happy about a bloody sacrifice has to be a little too sadistic not to count as crucial.
