The ongoing failed negotiations between the Alliance of Motion Picture & Television Producers (AMPTP) and the Writers Guild of America (WGA) have greatly affected ongoing shows and live television. After weeks of debate, WGA went on strike on May 2, 2023, leading to its first strike this decade.
Shows with pre-existing scripts like Andor and season 2 of The Rings of Power and House of the Dragon can continue except for no revisions or rewrites to their scripts. For late night TV shows like Saturday Night Live, though, everything has stopped indefinitely. Yellowjackets, which recently went into its season 3 production, suffers the same fate.
In a tweet posted on the day the strike went into effect, the show’s co-creator Asley Lyle stated that the writers’ room for season 3 was only open for a day. Though it was “creatively invigorating,” they will not return till the “WGA gets a fair deal.” Check her complete statement below:
Well, we had exactly one day in the Yellowjackets S3 writers’ room. It was amazing, and creatively invigorating, and so much fun, and I’m very excited to get back to it as soon as the WGA gets a fair deal.

It’s hard to say when writing on season 3 of Yellowjackets will resume, but it will not start back up until the WGA & AMPTP resolve their issues. The previous strike in 2007-2008 lasted three months; the longest was in the 80s for five months. Hopefully, that record won’t be broken anytime soon, and all of this will blow over quickly.
WGA’s main issue lies in the unreasonable comp on the scripted programming. Their pay depends on several factors, like the length of the show, its viewership, success, and more, leading to an unfair reward system.
Yellowjackets S3 2024 release date might as well be pushed back, so I’ll keep you updated on further news on the show. So, stay tuned to Cine Dope!
