Yamishibai takes both well-known and not-so-known Japanese urban legends and puts them into the modern setting to give us a nail-biting horror piece.
Though many anime series do this, none can do it better than Yamishibai: Japanese Ghost Stories. With animation and art inspired by the Shōwa-era paper theater, the short anime series has told tales for the last eight years.
With the series striking a chord with horror fans worldwide, the anime is revered by many long-time fans. With several sequels and spin-offs, the series is here to stay.
TV Tokyo recently announced that the ninth season of the Yamishibai: Japanese Ghost Stories would debut on its broadcasting network from July 2021. Moreover, they also released a new visual for the series, hinting at the upcoming stories.

The poster features a creepy old adult who is the narrator of the spine-chilling stories. He is surrounded by silhouettes of 12 Zodiac animals, with a terrifying dragon looming on the top of the poster.
Though each anime season has a theme, it’s still too early to guess what that could be. However, we can speculate that the zodiac mythology will play a massive role in this season.
The story follows a suspicious guy with a mask on his face who recites the most horrifying stories to the children. In the eighth season of the anime, the horror stories revolving around “Invisible Fear” were narrated.
The official sources also revealed the cast of the ninth season of Yamishibai: Japanese Ghost Stories. However, further details are yet to be announced.

Lastly, to commemorate the broadcast of “Yamishibai 9th Season,” a vertical animation will also debut in July for Japanese streaming sites such as Anime Beans.
The Yamishibai series also has anime spin-offs called the Ninja Collection, with most of the episodes available on Crunchyroll.

With such a long history of the series and a fantastic cast, the ninth season will surely hit its old fanbase and convert some normal otakus to horror otakus.
