Some players are encountering some responsiveness issues with the newest versions of the Xbox Wireless Controller which launched along with the Xbox Series X/S. Button taps are not being registered, and this problem seems to be occurring on PCs as well. Thankfully, Microsoft has acknowledged the problem and is currently working on a solution.
However, there is no time frame for the fix or what it will entail. So, if you are experiencing this problem, the only thing you can do is hope that it gets resolved sooner rather than later.
Controllers have evolved. A lot. And with every evolution, they’ve become more complex. They’ve had to, since we don’t play just Pong anymore. With so many delicate components working in tandem, it’s not really a surprise when something happens to malfunction. Most commonly it’s the drift issue, where players say their on screen character is moving to a particular direction without the player actually moving them.
Microsoft is facing a different, and more severe problem, than just drifting. A player who goes by the name SK Lee has reported that the “Y” button on their controller is facing this issue the most. They said that they have had to fall back on a Logitech controller as it ruined his experience of playing FIFA.
The controller consistently failed me several times in a 15-minute game.

The problem is also platform agnostic, affecting both Xbox Series X/S and PC players alike. YouTube user TrueGamingHD showed their controller going completely unresponsive while still connected to their Xbox Series X, forcing them to reboot the console.

It’s still guesswork as of now as to what the eventual fix will be. Whether it would require users to swap out for a revised model, send it in for repair or a software fix. The fact that it affects multiple platforms rules out the possibility of a software fix and points more towards a hardware issue.
