Today, Blizzard announced on Twitter that World of Warcraft’s latest and highly-anticipated expansion titled Shadowlands, won’t be coming out till the year’s end.
According to John Hight, the executive producer of World of Warcraft, the expansion has been delayed to fix a few rough edges, work on balancing-issues, and further develop the endgame.
The endgame especially has been difficult to work with because, according to Hight, Shadowlands is “one of the most intricate expansions” to date and the biggest one in World of Warcraft’s history.
As we all know, 2020 has been a pretty rough year for everyone due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with Blizzard being no exception to it.
According to Hight, the pandemic had caused workers to start working from their homes – a sight we see quite often these days – which has further caused a fall in the team’s efficiency and delayed the expansion.
Apart from that, Hight also announced that the pre-patch for WoW’s expansion, which will set the stage for Shadowlands, will be released on October 13th, carrying with it “revamped character leveling” and “a host of customization options.”
At the beginning of this month, Blizzard announced that World of Warcraft: Shadowlands will need an exceptionally large amount of storage, that too in the form of SSD, for it to run properly.
Not only is SSD a part of the recommended specs, but it will be a basic requirement for people to run the game properly.
Despite the steep system requirements that Blizzard stated to the loyal fans of World of Warcraft, most of them were still entranced by the expansion pack and were really looking forward to it.
Let’s be honest, who wouldn’t be excited after Shadowlands was cited as the biggest expansion pack for WoW to date? Nobody, I’d say.
Regardless, as of now, the exact date for Shadowlands’ release is yet to be confirmed, and all we can do is hope that it really does launch by the end of this year!
