X-Men: The Animated Series voice actor Cal Dodd is back in the studios recording for Disney+’s revival animated series, X-Men ’97.
Dodd uploaded an image on Twitter, revealing that he was back to voice James “Logan” Howlett/Wolverine.
The picture’s caption made for a not-so-subtle hint as he wrote, “Guess what I was doing in the studio today? So great to be back!!! #Wolverine #DisneyPlus #Xmen #XMen97 #xmentas.”
In the picture, Dodd is seen in a studio booth wearing a yellow-black jacket with the word “Logan” embroidered on it. The actor’s pose resembles Wolverine’s claws as he has his three fingers up.
Back in November 2021, it was revealed on Disney+ Day that Marvel Studios were reviving the X-Men: The Animated Series from the 90s.
The Disney+ series, titled X-Men ’97, will be a continuation of the original series that ran from 1992 to 1997 and will feature several of the original actors as they return to voice their characters more than two decades later.
Dodd has been the ultimate voice of animated Wolverine. Besides the animated series, he has also voiced the character in the crossover event Spider-Man: The Animated Series (1995), followed by video games including X-Men: Children of the Atom, Marvel Super Heroes, X-Men vs. Street Fighter, X-Men Cartoon Maker, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, Marvel vs. Capcom 1 & 2.
Alongside Dodd, other voice actors returning include Lenore Zann, George Buza, Adrian Hough, Christopher Britton, Catherine Disher, Chris Potter, Alison Sealy-Smith, and Alyson Court.
The newer cast members include Jennifer Hale, Anniwaa Buachie, Ray Chase, Matthew Waterson, JP Karliak, Holly Chou, Jeff Bennett, and AJ LoCascio.
In December, Zann, who returns to voice Rogue, revealed that she was back in the studio and the series had officially begun production.

As an animated show, the original X-Men was the forerunner to some amazing action series. Everyone that is making X-Men ’97, top-down, is a fan. On this project, instinctually, we knew exactly what this is. To bring this series forward and pick up that baton, and not just keep running at the same pace, but to really elevate. That’s the responsibility.

The revival is sure to bring in a lot of nostalgia – a common theme Marvel has seemingly adapted for its MCU Phase 4 as well. As the series was a fan-favorite back in the day, there would be an older generation of fans, along with the newer ones tuning in for their necessary dose of Wolverine.
X-Men ’97 is set to premiere on Disney+ sometime in 2023.
