After Disney took over the rights to Fox’s X-Men, fans wondered if we might also see some mutants in the MCU. Professor X and Ms.Marvel made the cut, and after D23, Ryan Reynolds announced two other mutants making the cut – his Deadpool and Hugh Jackman’s Logan/Wolverine.
After Wolverine died in Logan, we weren’t sure if we’d ever see the hero on screens again, but the September announcement came with another explanation. Deadpool 3 will feature a timeline prior to Logan’s events, owing to Marvel’s time-traveling storylines, so as not to disrupt the events of the 2017 film.
Hugh Jackman is currently neck-deep in his Broadway shows, but he’ll be putting it on hold for Deadpool 3, and he’s going all in! In an interview with Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace (via Collider), the Australian actor revealed he plans a rigorous routine of diet and exercise to get in shape to play the Adamantium-boned mutant. Read his full quote below:
I’ve learned you can’t rush it. I’ve learned that it takes time. So we have six months from when I finish to when I started filming. And I’m not doing any other work. I’m going to be with my family and train – that will be my job for six months. And I’m really fit right now. There’s one thing that about eight shows a week being on Broadway singing and dancing is I’m fit. So I’m healthy. I have a good place to start.
Wolverine’s debut in the MCU is definitely a big deal, and we can understand why Jackman would want to revive his character in Deadpool 3. Jackman also mentioned he agreed to put on the claws again because he wanted to bring the animosity and banter between Deadpool and Wolverine to life and is excited to do so in the 2024 film.
Ryan and Jackman have both promised an unfiltered R-rated Deadpool film, like the other two installments, despite the film being made under the Disney banner. We’re excited to see the two heroes return and share a screen after X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
