One Stark that we’ve already met in House of the Dragon is Rickard Stark, who swore his allegiance to Rhaenyra when she was a teen. After that, the Starks have been seemingly absent from the show — which feels like a huge letdown to fans.
The Starks are a big part of what made Game of Thrones so great. Will they have the same role in House of the Dragon? When will they appear on the show?
The Starks will appear in House of the Dragon S2 when Jace flies to Winterfell to strike an alliance for his mother, Rhaenyra. As Lord of Winterfell, Cregan Stark will support Rhaenyra’s claim and the Blacks.

When will the Starks appear in HOTD?
After Rickard Stark’s appearance, our proper encounter with the Starks will take place when Jacaerys flies to Winterfell and tries to get the Starks to join the Blacks.
Luke and Jace both fly out around the same time. Since the S1 finale dealt with Luke’s journey, it is only right to assume that HOTD season 2 may open up with Jace’s journey to the North. The Starks also have a major role to play towards the end of the Targaryen Civil War.
So, expect to see the Starks at the beginning of HOTD S2 and back again for the S2 finale.
Whose side the Starks are on: Greens or Blacks?
Viserys I made all the great Houses pledge allegiance to Rhaenyra when he announced her as the next heir to the Iron Throne. The Starks were obviously among the lords who bowed to her.
The Starks are known to value their oaths deeply, and so when Jace arrives in Winterfell to ask for their support, they ally with the Blacks.
Cregan Stark, who is the Lord of Winterfell at the time, will even get into a blood pact with Jace known as the Pact of Ice and Fire.
However, it is to be noted that the Northmen (especially the Starks) don’t actively fight in war until quite later in the end.
Will we see Winterfell in HOTD?
Definitely! Fire & Blood describes that Jace was in Winterfell for a considerable amount of time as he was trying to solidify his deal with Cregan.
Plus, there are different accounts of what his time there looked like. One states that Cregan thought of Jace as a younger brother and hence swore the blood oath. Another one says that Jace secretly married Cregan’s bastard sister, Sara. A third account says that Jace tried to convert the Starks into the Faith of the Seven.
Which of these the show will adapt will certainly guarantee Winterfell some much-deserved screen time in House of the Dragon. I do look forward to marching to the North!
