Paramount Pictures’ Sonic the Hedgehog 2 trailer has raised many expectations, and rightfully so.
The introduction of the powerful Knuckles and the bright Tails (finally), along with Jim Carrey’s Dr. Robotnik seems to suggest much bigger adventures for the sequel. Take a look below:
The trailer shows Sonic living a new, improved life by catching fugitives to use his abilities.
Thomas Wachowski (James Marsden) tells him to save his power because a time will come when he will have to use it, and lo and behold. Dr. Robotnik appears in all his might.
After Sonic beats Dr. Robotik once, the evil doctor brings Knuckles the Echidna to defeat the hedgehog, presumably manipulating him. Audiences can also expect an epic fight-off between the two.
The most thrilling part, which half of the internet is hoping to be true, is the reveal of Super Sonic – the ultra-powerful, yellow Sonic.
In the games, Sonic can only transform into Super Sonic after harnessing the powers of the Chaos Emeralds – seven mystical jewels that offer various powers.
The sequel focuses on one giant and all-powerful Master Emerald. Both Knuckles and Dr. Robotnik are after it and succeed in wielding it.
If Sonic is to defeat their evil plans, his powers only won’t be enough against the Master Emerald. The buildup seems perfect for the producers’ intent to make Sonic the Hedgehog a bigger film series.
The trailer filled with easter eggs such as Knuckles, Tails, and the jewels are enough to hint towards Sonic revealing his ultimate form soon.
While it may happen in the sequel, the creators might also take their time to relish fan reactions and release it in other installments.
Another keen observation: The trailer uses a mix of blue and yellow neon lights instead of only blue in the 2020 movie trailer. Coincidence?
Whatever the case, fans can check out what happens when Sonic the Hedgehog arrives in theaters on April 8.
