God of War Ragnarok is coming out soon, and to keep the crowd excited, Sony has released a gameplay trailer featuring Kratos and Tyr. While the first half of the trailer shows Kratos and Atreus looking for Tyr, the end shows an interesting interaction between the Norse God of War and the former Ghost of Sparta.
The trailer shows Kratos asking for help from the giant Tyr by assisting him in his journey. However, the clip leaves you on a cliffhanger, leaving fans wondering if the Norse God of War gives a shocking betrayal to the Ghost of Sparta.
It isn’t confirmed that Tyr will betray Kratos in God of War Ragnarok. However, according to many theories, he will try and take down the Ghost of Sparta to try and stop the foretold Ragnarok from taking place.
However, there are several hints given in the previous God of War game that suggest what actions Tyr will take in Ragnarok. To give you a better idea of what to expect from the upcoming game, I’ll address any questions related to Tyr in God for War Ragnarok.
Can Kratos be Tyr in God of War Ragnarok?
It’s highly unlikely that Kratos can be Tyr, as the God of War (2018) suggests that the Norse God had been travelling all around the world looking for peace and collecting souvenirs. One of the items has the Ghost of Sparta craved on it, suggesting Tyr has heard of Kratos but isn’t an incarnation of him.
Although Kratos took and dropped the title of the God of War in Greek mythology, he wasn’t associated with Tyr, the Norse God of War within Midgard throughout the entire game. As a result, it’s safe to assume that Tyr existed as the Norse God of battle, even before Kratos entered the mythology.
On top of that, the trailer shows an interaction between Tyr and Kratos where they seem to have clear arguments, so it’s very unlikely that they’re the same person.
Does Tyr become allies with Odin to take out Kratos?
Many theories suggest that Tyr is under Odin’s control and will betray Kratos in God of War Ragnarok. It comes from the suggestion that the king of Gods has forgiven him to take down the Kratos to avoid the destruction that could happen due to Ragnarok.
This theory has surfaced because Tyr still has two bejeweled eyes made of Bifrost crystals which is a gift from giants. Mimir was punished more severely for the same deeds that the Norse God of War committed and lost one of his eyes in the process, making him unable to travel into realms.
Therefore, it’s suggested that on his journey to befriend the giants, Tyr has joined forces with his father Odin and will plan to take down Kratos by betraying him in God of War Ragnarok.
Is Tyr still alive in God of War?
Tyr doesn’t make any direct appearance in the previous God of War, and it wasn’t even confirmed that the Norse God was even alive anymore. However, the Ragnarok trailer suggests that Tyr is alive and also makes an appearance, towering over Kratos as the Ghost of Sparta requests his assistance.
It should be noted that Tyr doesn’t speak a single word in the trailer and continues to stare down Kratos until the video ends. There are chances that the Tyr in the trailer is not the Norse God of War but Odin in disguise.
Odin has abilities to transform into another person, and what fuels this theory is the fact that Tyr doesn’t have one arm in Norse mythology. Mimir has often told in God of War that these events have taken place already, meaning we should be seeing Tyr without an arm, but the trailer shows him having both of his arms intact.
