Dune: Part One has finally hit the theatres as well as HBO Max. The title itself alludes to a sequel that will pick off with Paul and Lady Jessica slowly gaining the Fremen’s trust.
As of yet, Dune: Part Two has not officially been greenlit, but screenwriter Eric Roth has confirmed that the script is all done.
As Dune was released over the weekend, WB may be monitoring its performance at the box office. However, director Denis Villeneuve is confident that a confirmation will come sooner than later, stating,
it would need a really bad outcome at the box office to not have a Dune: Part Two, because (the studio) love the movie.

As such, it is expected that Dune: Part Two will start filming in 2022 for a release in 2023. Cast members set to return are Timothée Chalamet, Javier Bardem, Zendaya, and Rebecca Ferguson.
Breaking the movies up was a smart decision as the adaption has to cover Frank Herbet’s 412-page complex, sci-fi epic. Part One dealt with how and why Paul’s family, House Atreides, move to and serve as fief ruler of the desert planet Arrakis.
They are tricked by their enemies, prominently House Harkonnen, which results in the death of the Atreides patriarch Duke Leto.
Although Paul and Lady Jessica are left to die in the desert, they manage to survive. They finally meet the Fremen properly, Stilgar and Chani among them.
In order to enter the Fremen clan, Paul must fight a ritual duel. The movie ends with Paul reluctantly killing Fremen Jamis as the duel’s rules dictate.
In Dune: Part Two, we will see how Paul rises in the ranks of the Fremen, leading them as their Emperor to avenge their enemies. A war between the Fremen and Harkonnen will ensue, with Paul trying to reinstate House Atreides.
In the first movie, many of Paul’s ‘visions,’ have not yet come to fruition. These will probably be brought to life in Dune 2.
Paul, too, will go through a lot of character development: he started off as uncomfortable being the next leader of the Atreides. Now with his father gone and the stakes higher than ever, he has no option but to shoulder the responsibility of leading the Fremen.
There is a lot in store for the Dune: Part Two. Watch this space!
