Thomas and Lizzie’s relationship began as a marriage of convenience for both of them. In fact, it was John Shelby who had first slept and fallen in love with Lizzie when she was a sex worker.
However, over the years, Thomas has grown to like Lizzie. He surely cares for her and wants to ensure her safety. In season 6, Episode 5, we see the two having a conversation in their room, and he tells her that he loves her.
It’s perhaps the first time he’s said it to her aloud, which could be for multiple reasons. It could be because he’s taking on enemies who’ve remained undefeated. It could also be because he has tuberculoma, and his days are numbered.
But, no matter the reason, Thomas is trying to do everything in his power to take care of one last business and spend the rest of his days with Lizzie in peace. So, will Thomas and Lizzie get their happy ending?
Thomas and Lizzie might not get their happy ending. His chances of defeating Nelson and Mosley are slim. Even if he does emerge victoriously, he only has 18 months to live due to his tuberculoma.
In the penultimate episode of Peaky Blinders, Billy agreed to be an informant of Nelson after he was tortured by the American. This means history could repeat itself, and Thomas might lose yet again because he couldn’t spot the mole or the black cat.
Even if he does take care of Billy, we don’t know who else has been intimidated by Nelson into joining his side. So, it is pretty difficult for Thomas to win this battle against not one but two villains: Nelson and Mosley.
Let’s just say that Tommy ends up tying up all loose ends and accomplishes his goals; he still has the tumor in his brain to worry about.
In Episode 4, his personal doctor told him that he has a year or a maximum of 18 months. After which, he’ll need his loved ones to be around him.
This means that if Thomas exits the business and politics, he would still have very little time with Lizzie and the other family members. So, the two might not get their happy ending.
While all these events unfold on the screen, the creator Steven Knight has also planned a spin-off film.
While he hasn’t hinted which characters will return or what the story would be, he has mentioned that he believes in giving new talent a shot at becoming great actors.
Could this mean the film will be a spin-off on Thomas’ first son with Zelda, Erasmus Duke?
The creator also said that the spin-off would be set during World War II and based on a person who lived during that era. So maybe the story would have some other central character.
Well, no matter what the plot is, by the looks of it, it doesn’t involve Thomas and Lizzie.
It is also interesting to note that, in an interview, Steven Knight had said that Grace was Thomas’ only salvation. Without her, Thomas is bound to break down at some point.
Considering Grace is not coming back, Thomas might as well die in the show, and we might not get the happy ending he and Lizzie deserved.
Peaky Blinders series finale is to release on April 3, Sunday, and I can’t wait to find out how this epic tale comes to an end.

Netflix, under a deal with Weinstein Company and Endemol, acquired the rights to release the show in the United States and around the world. In January 2021, it was announced that the sixth series would be the last, followed by a spin-off film. The final series was broadcast in 2022.
