After winning people’s hearts all around with 12 brilliantly well articulated episodes, it is finally a wrap for Ted Lasso season 2. Fans can’t get enough of the show, and every frame in every episode seems to be just perfect. Right from its witty writing to gritty character arcs, Season 2 has knocked it out of the park.
Season 2 picked off from Richmond’s much-needed victory. Oh no, it wasn’t a victory in a match but a victory for Ted Lasso, because the team finally seemed to be coming together. There were quite a few ups and downs and things did not have an easy resolution like season 1 in this season.
This is perhaps one of the biggest pros and cons of the show. When there are no easy resolutions, you dive into the depths of characters and plot lines, giving the story the necessary layers. However, there is also a chance that you might stray off from the main plot a little bit and sometimes find it difficult to find that primary thread to connect it all.
The season 2 finale is like a déjà vu for fans who remember the season 1 finale. This time too, AFC Richmond needs a draw to qualify for the Premiere League and they do it! Last time, the team lost to Man City at the last minute, but this time, Richmond finally made it.
After quite an eventful finale, we are all wondering if our favorite show is going to return for season 3. Oh yes, it will!
Ted Lasso will return with Season 3 with 12 episodes. In October 2020, the show got renewed for a third season, and the production will begin in January 2022. The stories of different characters have been mapped out for three seasons, and a fourth season is not yet discussed.
After Season 1’s success, the show was renewed for a third season even before the second season started filming. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed this and even reported on how Season 1 got 25 percent more new viewers to Apple TV.
In an interview with Deadline, Co-Creator Bill Lawrence mentioned how the story was mapped out till its third year (third season) and also hinted that the third season might be the final season of the show.
While we don’t know much else about Season 3, it turns out we’re not the only ones. The cast members, too, don’t know how their stories and arcs will unfold in Season 3, despite Sudeikis and other creators having it all mapped out.
But we definitely do have some threads for speculation of what is coming up for season 3.
The season 2 finale sets up the villains for season 3. Yes, I mean Nate Shelley. I personally never imagined Nate taking such a supervillainous turn. Considering what Ted did for him, it did come out as a shock.
Apart from the new bad guy in town aka Nate, Rupert has always been one shrewd and manipulative guy since season 1. We will most likely see more of his tricks in the next season.
Anyway, in season 3, Richmond will be playing West Ham United, Rupert’s new team which will be coached by Nate.
Sam also makes his decision to stay back with Richmond, but he does say it is not because of Rebecca or his feelings for her. In season 3, I am expecting some progress in the Sam-Rebecca track and also an appearance of Sam’s father, considering he played an important role in helping Sam make up his mind.
Keeley also made a big career decision in the season 2 finale. We learn that she got an offer from Bantr which wants to sponsor her new PR agency. Season 3 might turn big for her career and we may finally see Keeley working towards her career.
Things do seem complicated with Roy and her, and we might witness a break up in season 3 as season 2 evidently sets it up.
Roy joined AFC Richmond as a coach after having a brief run on a career in commentary. With Nate leaving Richmond and Roy coming in, season 3 should have a lot to do with team rivalry and competition.
If season 3 does end up being the final season of the show, I am wondering whether Ted would stay back in UK or go back to the US to his son. Ted has not had a particularly cheerful run this season, so hopefully season 3 will bring him some closure.
We do not yet have a potential release date for season 3, but it should come mid 2022 or late 2022. Can’t wait to see what is coming up!
