A Sequel to The School for Good and Evil Is on the Cards

If you haven’t heard of The School for Good and Evil before today, you wouldn’t be the only one. Netflix’s latest film didn’t release with much anticipation. Yet, it did quite well, becoming the most-watched movie on October 20, the day after its release on Netflix.

Now, a sequel could be in the works, according to the rumor mills. The School for Good and Evil is a fantasy film based on the novel by Sonam Chainani, bearing the same name. The movie is a loose adaptation of the book.

The Netflix adaptation took significant events from the book and gave it a fresh look. The changes are done tastefully, so the movie is an overall fun watch for everybody. According to critics, the movie did well in terms of visual spectacle. Where it lacked, though, was storytelling.

Enough said about the first part. That’s not what we’re here for, are we? Just before the credits, an arrow shot by Tedros pierces through the portal and enters the real world. We also hear Tedros saying that he needs Agatha. The narrator says, “This is just the beginning,” and the credits start to roll.

Netflix hasn’t officially confirmed a sequel as of now but the end credits of the movie and the extraordinary response by Netflix subscribers do hint towards a potential sequel. The School of Good and Evil is a six-book long series, so Netflix has enough content for a cinematic universe.

What happens in TSFGAE’s Book 2?

In the books, the school has been divided into the School for Girls and the School for Boys. Agatha finds herself wishing for a different happily ever after with Tedros when a portal opens and takes them back to the school. The power vacuum left by the School Master’s death brought about many changes to the school and made it a hardly recognizable place.

Sophie discovers they are back at the school because Agatha wished for a different ending, which Agatha denies. She follows Agatha, and they sneak into the School for Boys. Agatha and Tedros talk and almost kiss, unaware of Sophie, who is hiding. Sophie then hexes both, and they start arguing. This leads to Agatha believing that Tedros is evil now.

Sophie then changes herself into a boy and slips into the school for boys. After a few days, she becomes acquainted with Tedros, and they share life stories and bond with each other. In the Blue Forest, Sophie, still disguised as a boy, is about to share a kiss with Tedros when they are interrupted by Agatha, and the three argue.

Sophie then reverts to her female form, leaving Tedros very confused. They are interrupted by the new Dean’s sister. She reveals that Sophie’s wish to see her dead mother again is what brought them back, not Agatha.

The Dean then shows Sophie her mother again, and Sophie kisses her. When this happens, it is revealed in a sudden twist that the spirit of the school Master was inhabiting Sophie’s mother and true love’s kiss brought him back.

The School Master sends Agatha back and tries to kill Tedros, but Agatha saves him by dragging him with her. Sophie chooses to stay with the school Master, saying he is the only one who never betrayed her.

The second part ends with the girls being separated. Now, if the first movie is anything to go by, the sequel would be quite different from the book.

What might happen in The School for Good and Evil 2?

The name of the School will probably remain the same. The movie might give Agatha and Sophie a different motive for returning to the School. We can also expect the movie to retcon the love triangle scenes to prevent needlessly extending the runtime.

The final battle might also look different. In the book, Lesso isn’t the Dean anymore. The sequel might choose to keep Lesso as the dean to retain Charlize Theron. Since we already know the School Master is the Evil Rafal, the movie could give us a different villain or find a different way to reintroduce Rafal into the franchise.

All this depends on Netflix announcing a sequel for The School for Good and Evil. The Franchise could very well dissapear, never to be heard from again. But we hope that doesn’t happen!
