The Secret Invasion finale aired this week and there’s a lot of discussion about season 2. The finale was underwhelming to say the least. Fans are disappointed by the finale, so feelings about a potential season 2 are mixed.
Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed the renewal of a second season for Secret Invasion. Moreover, it is very unlikely that Secret Invasion will have a second season.
The series serves as a precursor to The Marvels and Armor Wars, which are upcoming movies that feature characters who appear in Secret Invasion, such as Nick Fury and Rhodey.
Unlike Loki and the anthology series What If, which have been renewed for second seasons, most of Marvel’s shows are designed to be single-season series that introduce or explore various characters.
For instance, The Marvels will feature Fury, Captain Marvel, Ms. Marvel, and Monica Rambeau in a new and exciting adventure. The film will also set the stage for the next big saga of the MCU, as it connects the dots between WandaVision, Ms. Marvel, and other stories in the aftermath of Endgame. The snap is no longer the main focus of the MCU.
In other words, the purpose of shows like Secret Invasion is to set the stage and introduce certain characters in the MCU so they can feature in big screen projects. Secret Invasion does exactly that by introducing us to Nick Fury. If you want to see Nick Fury on screen again, wait for The Marvels which will release in November.
Another reason why Secret Invasion season 2 is unlikely is because the response to the series has been disappointing. Most reviews consider the show mediocre, and it is not at the same level as WandaVision or Loki. Fans are disappointed with the series, especially after the finale.
However, in an interview with SFX magazine, the director of Secret Invasion, Ali Selim said-
“When it ends, I hope you feel satiated and complete. And as Marvel does so excellently, you also feel like, ‘Oh, it could go in this direction. Nick Fury is alive and continues to battle, I don’t think that’s a spoiler alert. And there are some characters that are no longer with us and some characters that live to see another challenge. I would love to see that challenge become season 2.”
There is always scope of another season. But as of now, with the ongoing SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, the future of many shows is uncertain. We do not know when we will get new content again and how long the strike will continue.
Even if Secret Invasion is renewed for another season, it might take a long time for it to release or even go into production. We can’t say anything for sure yet.
As of now, we can wait for an official confirmation and look forward to seeing Nick Fury on the big screen again.
