Heels finale recently aired on Starz Cable TV marking the end of an intriguing and dramatic season 1. The show surrounds two brothers trying to keep their county pro-wrestling league, the Duffy Wrestling League (DWL), alive while battling their differences and inner demons.
The subplots follow the lives of a few other members involved with the league, the family, and how each is on a journey towards fulfilling their dreams and trying to make a name for themselves.
The hyper-real show throws us into the reality behind pro wrestling and shares a glimpse of how all that shines are not diamonds. There’s sweat, tears, blood involved in surviving in the cutthroat business. But more importantly, there are relationships at stake as the lines between personal identities and characters in the ring get blurred so easily.
In the season finale, we saw DWL finally on its way to success as Crystal became the face of the main event. Gully, who runs Dystopia, is seemingly defeated for the time being. However, there are still quite a few open ends. The relationship between Ace and Jack, Staci and Jack, and even the crisis Willie goes through.
So will Heels return for a season 2 to tell this tale and how these characters move forward?
Heels as, of now, has neither been canceled nor been renewed for a second season. However, the creator Michael Waldron and his writers are already laying out a plan for season 2 if the show is renewed. We might see a deeper dive into characters such as Diego and Apocalypse, a possible closure to Jack and Ace’s strained relationship, and more.
After a banger of a season finale, fans such as myself are so eager to know what happens with these complex, flawed, but flawlessly written characters. Ace has somewhat grown throughout the season, but there seems to be a lot to unpack here. We need more of Jack to introspect and give into his character to see how he moves forward after the success of DWL.
In fact, there are so many characters that we want to know more about and how they fit into this world where DWL can finally be successful. Some of them are Staci, Wild Bill, Willie, Gully, Rooster, and, needless to say, Crystal.
Now, I know that the show hasn’t been renewed for season 2, but I’m just waiting to hear that news. However, the creator Michael Waldron and his writers’ team are not waiting for anything or anyone. If there is one, the man behind this impeccable series already has a few plans for season 2.
What Could Be The Plot For Heels Season 2?
He wants to unpack and dig deeper into other characters such as Diego and Apocalypse that we didn’t get to see much in the first season. Besides this, we might also see how Jack and Ace go through their fallout when Jack finally admits his fault.
The creator mentioned how conversations about the renewal are going on and let us in on a few plot points.
Here’s what he had to say about the entire Jack and Ace relationship to TVLine.
“I think they’ve finally broken apart, and there’s the question of: Where do they go from here? Who is Jack without Ace? And who is Ace without Jack? That’s all interesting stuff to explore.”

When it came to Crystal’s arc, he mentioned, “Kelli Berglund [who plays Crystal] is obviously incredible, and so what it would be like to bring in some rivals for her could be a lot of fun.”
Throughout season 1, Jack was at the center of it all, yet we saw more of Ace and his various shades as a person while only finding a glimpse of it in Jack. I think I’d like to see how Jack internalizes his insecurities, how he confronts his own shortcomings as a brother, as an owner of the league, and even as a husband.
His life in the ring has clearly taken a toll on all his relationships, and his marriage is no exception. It’d be pretty fascinating to see how that part of his life unfolds and how it is a reflection of everything he is going through and just is.

Well, I guess that’s about all for the season 2 update. So why don’t you and I together start praying for a season 2 because it’d be a shame not to see all these characters grow and evolve.
