Russian Doll is an American comedy series created by Natasha Lyonne, Leslye Headland, and Amy Poehler.
The show initially aired in Netflix in February, 2019 and explores heavy topics such as drug dependence, alcoholism, and existentialism in 8 episodes.
Russian Doll’s Groundhog Day-esque storyline with a twist, with its well-cast trove of actors, is the reason it has been exceptionally well received by fans and critics alike. The series has also received four Primetime Emmy Award Nominations.
Avid viewers expected season 2 to premiere during the beginning of 2020. Its shooting was about to take place in May this year. However, the coronavirus pandemic has affected its schedule.
1. Premiere Date And Highlights
Russian Doll Season 2 is happening and has been officially confirmed by Netflix’s Twitter account. However, the exact date of the premiere is yet to be announced.
The main character of the series, played by Natasha Lyonne, was also extremely excited to break the news of season 2 to her fans on Twitter.
2. Series Overview
The first season saw a tough, smart, video game developer Nadia (played by Natasha Lyonne). She drinks, smokes and fornicates her way through her 36th birthday, and then dies horribly while chasing down her missing cat.
She wakes up at her birthday party, only for the same night starts all over again. And again. And again, with each night ending in her death. It’s Groundhog Day with cursing, existential angst and an early midlife crisis.
3. What’s New In Season 2?
The cast! Although Nadia will return, dead or alive, it is still to be seen if Charlie Barnett will join her. He played a key role in the first season, but as yet, it’s unclear whether Alan will reunite with Nadia for a second one.
Assuming that Lyonne takes center stage again, Nadia’s friends Maxine (played by Greta Lee) and Lizzy (played by Rebecca Henderson) will probably make appearances in season 2.
While Nadia did find some closure in season 1’s finale, we wouldn’t be surprised if Lenora Vulvokov (played by Chloë Sevigny) returns in season 2 as her troubled mother.
Other members of the cast have not yet been announced or finalized. With more comedy, more mystery and more twists expected, and nothing who’s to say what the next season will bring?
4. Official Trailer
There has been no trailer released for season 2 as yet.
5. Official Poster
There has been no official poster released as yet. Here are a few stills from season 1 to remind you of the show!
6. Expected Plot
The creators of the show are currently remaining pretty tight-lipped about what the plot of season two might hold. However, they have said that they’ve imagined having a three-season arc that Netflix liked.
All that’s left to do is binge on its first season and wait.
