After the stunning and equally surprising finale of season 1 of Mrs. Davis, Peacock has not officially announced whether the show will be renewed or canceled. However, I do have some news about Mrs. Davis season 2, and I’m afraid it isn’t as good as you’d like it to be.
TVLine reports that an insider from Peacock has confirmed that the show will end with season 1. Moreover, it has joined the Emmy race not in the comedy category but in the limited series drama section. The show’s end with only eight episodes seems rather abrupt, but it is what it is. After all, there’s no sister Simone to fight this battle for us.
The Peacock series premiered on the streamer with its first four episodes and wrapped up its eight-part season pretty quickly in less than a month. Despite the sudden change in its plans, the series did find a satisfying end in the season 1 finale, neatly wrapping up all chapters of the story.
After Sister Simone finds out that the AI app is not the malevolent force, she was making it out to be, she shuts it down, nonetheless. She makes up with her mother, breaks the Holy Grail and frees Jesus, and even Wiley gets his own idea of a happy ending.
With its wackadoodle plot, superb acting, and the perfect balance between life lessons and humor, I get why the audience expected more than one season of the limited series. At least the show wasn’t canceled, and since the official confirmation from Peacock is still due, we can still hold out hope – although I advise you not to.
The silver lining in this disappointing update? At least now, the actors who brought such unique characters to life have a chance to score a well-deserved Emmy in a less crowded category.
