MODOK is the new Marvel series that released last week. As underwhelming as it was, it still had some good moments and a premise that was a bit off-beat. But was it worthy of a season 2, and will there be one?
M.O.D.O.K – Mental Organism Design Only For Killing is a supervillain who wants to take over the world. A genius scientist who experimented on himself and ended up having a massive head with a small body. He has a family and runs an organization called A.I.M that stands for Advanced Idea Mechanics.
Is it just me, or do most things have an abbreviation on the show?
Either way, MODOK’s organization is incurred too much loss, and he had to sell it to GRUMBL. And just when this wasn’t enough to put him in despair, he started having problems with his family and his wife, who wants a divorce.
The show takes us on a journey of this almost ruthless yet warm supervillain who wants to have it all. He wants a family while also world domination. Towards the end, MODOK from the future comes to the present to kill MODOK’s family (in the present).
The future MODOK is called Anomaly, and he explains why his family needs to die since that would trigger sadness, rage, and emptiness that will drive him to accomplish his goals!
MODOK chooses his dream over his family, and we cut to him in the future where he is torturing Anomaly to find a way to get his family back, but in the process, Anomaly dies. And thus, the show ends on a cliffhanger which is quite a setup for season 2, but will we have it?
There has been no explicit yes from Marvel for a season 2, but the creators already have a solid premise of how MODOK tries to get everything he wants – his family and conquest over the world.
What Can We See In Season 2?
We surely will get to see M.O.D.O.K’s family again, considering they were one of the prominent parts of the plot and character arc.
Co-creator Jordan Blum replied to a tweet stating that Melissa, MODOK’s daughter is bisexual, and season 2 would explore that. He also hinted that there are other queer relationships on the show.
I have this wild thought that if MODOK ends up going in the past to save his family, the events might unfold in such a way that he realizes his family needs to die. This way, he becomes Anomaly and convinces MODOK from the past that his family needs to die.
Nothing has been confirmed, and this merely speculation. Call it fan theory, if you may. But it would be interesting to see how they go from here since they have a shot at making the show edgier and even better than season one!
