Doctor Strange 2 released this week, and like every other MCU film, it has the mid-credits and post-credits scenes which hint at what’s next. While the film got mixed reviews from the critics and audience alike, it gave us something different from the usual Marvel outings.
Before I go further, here’s a spoiler alert. I’ll be discussing some key parts of the movie while speculating if there could be a third installment in the series. So, proceed at your own risk.
The mid-credits scene is almost like a setup for what would come next for the titular character. So does this mean there will be a Doctor Strange 3?
Marvel hasn’t confirmed Doctor Strange 3 yet. While the mid-credits scene with Clea means that we’ll be seeing more of Doctor Strange, we don’t know if it would be in a solo movie or as part of other MCU outings.
Here’s a quick recap of the mid-credits scene. After Doctor Strange solves the Multiversal crisis started by The Scarlet Witch, he is seen walking casually on the streets of New York. Suddenly, a character in a purple suit, Clea, appears, seeking Stephen’s help.
She mentions how he has caused an Incursion in her universe, and now, she needs him to fix it. Clea then opens up a portal, and the two walk through it, and the credits start rolling.
There’s also an end slate that says, “Doctor Strange will return.” This means that we will be seeing more of him in the future. However, we don’t know if it would be in Doctor Strange 3 or other titles.
After the first film, we saw the sorcerer appear in films like Infinity War, Endgame, and Spider-Man: No Way Home. While he was a supporting character in these films, he played a major role, and his arc was a crucial part of the narrative.
Considering how Loki might be on a multiversal hop, and both Strange and Clea will solve yet another multiversal crisis, there’s no way of knowing where we are going to see our beloved mystic arts sorcerer.
On a side note, Benedict Cumberbatch mentioned how he’s planning to take a small break after the film released. This could mean that he might be missing from the big screens for a while.
Maybe a couple of cameos can be sneaked in, but I guess nothing can be confirmed at this stage. Hopefully, there will be more news to know what’s next for the character and the series.
