Based on the comics of the same name, the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is quite the spellbinding watch. Fans may be disappointed to learn that the upcoming fourth season of the show is set to be the last, after having been axed by Netflix.
The series has won a loyal legion of fans for its gothic take on the beloved ’90s sitcom. The news of the last season will be a tough blow for viewers.
In December, 2018, the series was said to be renewed by Netflix for two more parts in a tweet. Season four still expected to follow in late 2020, despite delays caused by COVID-19 disrupting much of the industry.
1. Premiere Date and Highlights
There will be one last batch of new episodes for Chilling Adventures of Sabrina. Netflix confirmed that the Riverdale spinoff starring Kiernan Shipka will end after the upcoming Part 4 in late 2020.
The title star Kiernan Shipka posted a reaction on Instagram three days ago confirming the news.
Series creator and Archie-verse honcho Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa also weighed in the cancellation and upcoming episodes in a recent tweet.
Originally developed for the CW network, the Archie-verse offshoot migrated to Netflix when the streamer offered a two-season order. The show’s seasons are referred to as Parts, and range for an average of ten episodes each.
There is no official release date for Part 4 yet. It is expected to air at some point in late 2020. Part 3 hit Netflix on 24th January 2020, and it might be a while before the fourth instalment is released.
2. Series Overview and Cast
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is set in the fictional town of Greendale. It is a dark coming-of-age story that includes horror and witchcraft. Initially based on a comic, the series has been largely lauded for its gothic spin.
Sabrina Spellman must reconcile her dual nature as a half-witch, half-mortal while fighting the evil forces that threaten her, her family and the daylight world humans inhabit. In each part, she overcomes hurdles to do so.
The cast of Chilling Adventures of Sabrina includes Shipka in the title role, Miranda Otto as Zelda Spellman, Lucy Davis as Hilda Spellman, Ross Lynch as Harvey Kinkle, Gavin Leatherwood as Nicholas Scratch.
Chance Perdomo as Ambrose Spellman, Jaz Sinclair plays Rosalind Walker, Lachlan Watson as Theo Putnam, Michelle Gomez as Madam Satan, Richard Coyle as Father Blackwood, and Tati Gabrielle as Prudence Blackwood.
3. Part 3 Recap
Part 3 saw Sabrina head to the depths of Hell to rescue her boyfriend, whose body was holding back the Dark Lord. He also happens to be Sabrina’s creepy real father. The series expanded on the show’s mythology of the (under)world.
Sabrina couldn’t just let the injustices happening in Hell go unchallenged, vowing to bring new management to Satan’s realm. There ends up being two co-existing Sabrinas in the present day – one that rules Hell, and one that returns to Greendale.
4. Official Trailer
There has been no official trailer released yet.
5. Official poster
Although there is no official poster yet, here are a few first-look pictures from the upcoming season.
6. Expected Plot
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina’s part 4 is likely to continue playing around with time travel, perhaps even expanding into alternate universes. The threat of the Pagan gods may be gone now that Hell is stabilized.
However, Sabrina opened the doors for even more dark and terrible beings by destabilizing time in part 3. Now that there are two versions of Sabrina, we may see the newly crowned Queen of Hell blossom into a villain, forcing Earth’s Sabrina to fight an evil version of herself.
We can’t wait for the new part to drop. Until then, binge watching the old ones on Netflix will have to do!
