The Last Thing He Told Me will not receive a second season. The series is an adaptation of the novel of the same name. Laura Dave, the author of “The Last Thing He Told Me.” The mini-series adapted the whole story, thus leaving no more materials to be adapted into a sequel.
However, in an interview, Laura debated the possibility of a sequel. She begins by plainly stating that she never intended to write a continuation of the novel.
She has seen readers engaged with the last scene as many despise how Owen walked out from his wife and daughter’s lives.
“I’ve been asked questions about this in different capacities and started thinking about the answers. So now I don’t know. I can imagine the world where that sequel could come to be.”
The author has never imagined a sequel, but the reaction to the ending might make her rethink her decision. However, only some would want to read or watch part 2, written and produced half-heartedly and solely because of audience demand.
Josh Singer, who took home the Best Original Screenplay statuette at the Oscars seven years ago (for Spotlight), also chipped in: “We sold it as a ‘limited,’ and we always imagined it as a ‘limited.’
“What I love is, you know, that Laura found when she picked the book up again, which is that you think it’s a love story about Hannah and Owen, and it’s really about Hannah and Bailey moving closer and closer together. And that’s the magic here.
And so, in some ways, that story is complete. So, I don’t know.”
The Last Thing He Told Me Season 2 seems unlikely to happen. We have to wait and see whether the massive fan following changes the mind of the makers, and they decide to return.
