Picture this: you have a 12-year-old girl — Suika — acquiring food, clothes, and shelter by herself. All her friends have turned into stone statues. Since everyone was petrified, she struggles in the South American wilderness alone.
Think this is an uninteresting Dr. Stone storyline? Well, then, how about tasking the same little girl to recreate the miracle fluid? Potentially saving all Kingdom of Science members?
Pretty wild, am I right? Had I not seen the developments myself, it’s unbelievable!
For one thing, it’s a tall order for a Dr. Stone side character to get this much limelight, let alone, Suika — the cute melon-head girl who’s always rolling around!
But Dr. Stone’s latest chapters are breathtaking because Suika is tasked to recreate the miracle fluid! Where does she even begin? Let’s discuss and find out what Senkū and his friends expect from her!
Suika can create the miracle fluid and revive everyone. But as I said before, it’s a very tall order for a girl like her! Let’s be real here: We’re talking about Suika — a side character of the Dr. Stone series since the beginning of the series!
Not that I’m underestimating her. Oh, no! She’s been a fabulous character since her debut!
In fact, out of all the crises the Kingdom of Science faced, she broke out of her petrified state on a lucky day (when Stanley and his men are also petrified)! But while Suika bathes in glorious limelight, she also walks on a tightrope!
For 20+ volumes, Suika has only been a helping hand. She hasn’t demonstrated a big scientific brain like the inventive Chrome. Nor has she crafted artistic and useful workmanships like Kaseki!
She’s probably the last person on your mind to revive the petrified Kingdom of Science members.
Yet, the author is giving her two chapters worth of manga panel time (and possibly more) to let her shine as bright as Ginrō, Kaseki, and Magma (all side characters who’ve acquired amazing developments)!
One must also remember that the revival fluid is complex! But since we all wanna know whether Suika can succeed, let’s first identify the recipe for the miracle juice!
What is Suika’s recipe to create the revival fluid?
Suika’s recipe to create the revival fluid is a mixture of 30% nitric acid and 70% ethanol that is distilled to a 96% purity (Chapter 9).
In Dr. Stone, nitric acid is extracted from bat guano (or bat poop). Meanwhile, ethanol is an organic chemical compound that one can obtain from wine.
And if you remember back in Chapter 2, Senkū emphasized that combining ethanol and nitric acid would produce “Nital” — an industrial corrosive substance to engrave (or etch) metals!
Not only can it corrode metal surfaces; rather, it can corrode stone surfaces as well! Hence, “Nital” is the perfect miracle fluid to revive petrified people!
Also, if you look closely at Chapter 195, you’ll see how detailed Senkū’s instructions were to Suika! He wrote a scientific roadmap so Suika can follow them to a tea!
She won’t fail to create the miracle juice as long as she has alcohol, bat guano, and chemistry set to distill the miracle fluid!
But the problem is, Suika is starting with nothing! Therefore, she must find a way first to create alcohol! She could do it like how Taiju crushed grapes! But since Suika doesn’t have Taiju’s stamina, who knows how long it will take her to acquire wine!
In addition, where on earth can Suika find bats in South America? Before the petrification beam hit the Kingdom of Science, no bats were flying in the area! And readers didn’t spot any caves either!
That’s why Suika’s biggest hurdle right now is hunting for bat guano! Because without it, how can she ever start formulating the miracle juice?
The distillation of the ethanol is possible without a chemistry set (the set would force Suika to create glass)! All she has to do is create earthenware since they’re made of clay.
But if it took Senkū months to create a functioning earthenware just for wine distillation, how many more months does Suika need?!
I can’t imagine the author writing 3 or more chapters about Suika’s revival fluid creation. But if it can carefully show us that “slow-and-steady wins the race” process before she successfully revives her friends, then Dr. Stone is hitting a home run!
If you’re interested in knowing how she became the chosen one, check out Suika’s talents and survival skills!
