In a rather gothic turn of events, Stephen is set to face his worst enemy—an evil version of himself from another universe, as revealed in the newly released teaser for the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.
The teaser was first released as part of Spider-Man NWH’s end-credits scene. So, kudos to all of you who patiently waited and have already seen this! But now that it is officially released online, we can watch it multiple times in HD and dissect it.
Here you go:
The clip starts with echoes of Strange and Wong’s conversations from No Way Home. Wong’s warning about not casting the spell once again reminds us that the mess Peter and Strange created is continuing to have repercussions.
This means that while Peter’s sacrifice ensured that no more intruders come into their universe, there have been other factors (like Loki and Wanda’s adventures) that have aided in bursting open the multiverse.
To talk about the multiverse, Strange visits Wanda, who has taken to secluded living after the debacle of Westview. Next, we get a shot of Rachel getting married, Wanda in her Scarlet Witch persona, and a brief glance at newcomer America Chavez.
Chiwetel Ejiofor returns as Karl Mordo, the film’s main antagonist who wants to rid the world of all sorcery.
But while Mordo makes a formidable enemy, the spotlight is stolen by one particular character—Strange Supreme. Seeing him in the flesh (rather than 2D) literally gave me chills.
We’ve met Strange Supreme before in What If…? The character started out as tragically unhinged but redeemed himself when he helped to save the multiverse.
Is Doctor Strange 2’s version the same character or is it entirely separate from What If…? Or a better question would be, will Strange Supreme save the multiverse once again?
Here’s a little Reddit discussion on the same:
Unlike Strange, I can’t look into the future and give you the answers. But I sure do know that Marvel will be posting more teasers. So mark your calendars for May 6, and stay tuned!
