From the main protagonist, Luffy, to one of the strongest characters, Shanks, there are many contenders for the legendary treasure. Who will get the One Piece? Only time will tell. But for now, there is the foresight of one of the biggest battles on the horizon that will surely break the fandom.
Who is Shanks – Is he Going for the One Piece too?
Shanks, more popularly known as Red-Haired Shanks, is the chief of the infamous Red Hair Pirates. Currently, he is also one of the four emperors who rule over the New World.
He shares a very good relationship with Luffy as he was the person who had inspired young Luffy to become a pirate. He is intrigued by his courage and determination, so much so that he has given him his straw hat, which Luffy still uses. He is also responsible for Luffy’s Gomu Gomu no Mi powers.
In chapter 1054 of One Piece, we saw Shanks at Wano, smiling at Luffy’s new wanted poster. Shanks reminisces about his time with him and decides against meeting him for now. Then suddenly, his expression changes to a colder one as he declares that it is time to claim the one piece. In the latest chapter 1121 of One Piece, this was teased again during Vegapunk’s speech.
True Strength of Shanks- The Unbeatable Pirate
Shanks is one of the four emperors, so no doubt, he is one of the most powerful characters in One Piece right now. He had been sailing with the former King of Pirates’ crew- Roger Pirates, ever since he was a baby, so that you can imagine the year of experience.
Even though he has no devil fruits, he possesses an impressive ensemble of Haki. He has such a raw aura that even characters like Blackbeard backed away from the fight during Marineford. He had even stopped Kaido, known to be the strongest creature in the world, before he could reach Marineford.
In the fight, he is no less than a demon as he does not spare any mercy for his opponents. Eustass Kid, the Worst Generation Pirate, had challenged him on Elbaf but suffered a one-sided demolition. Even before Kid could use his most powerful move-Damned Punk, he got defeated by Shank’s Haki-Divine Departure.
Luffy vs. Shanks – Is the Epic Fight on the Horizon?
In the One-Piece series, Shanks and Luffy have yet to face each other. They had no reason to since they share a pretty good bond and equally admire each other. Luffy, despite revering Shanks, still made his intention to fight every emperor, which included Shanks too.
Shanks, on the other hand, constantly keeps track of Luffy’s whereabouts and his latest achievements. He is impressed by his growth and is clearly interested in testing his strength. Shanks had a perfect opportunity to face him in Wano but decided against it, so he might be saving it for later.
Are there any imminent signs of Luffy vs. Shanks in the manga? Unfortunately, no, but will there be any in the future? Possibly yes. Since both have made their intention for One Piece known, a fight is inevitable. As the series has entered the final saga, maybe their battle will be an endgame.
Shanks has yet to lose any fight, unlike Luffy, so their fight is something fans are eagerly looking forward to. We don’t know how long this will take, but one thing is for sure: the GOAT Oda Sensei will deliver, and this battle will once again break the internet and make history!
