In She-Hulk’s penultimate episode, Jennifer speculates about the fate of the finale. Two options she gives us are either that she’s going to get killed or “Oh, there’s another Hulk, but this one’s red.”
This dialogue immediately fires up our curiosity about who will appear in She-Hulk’s finale as the main antagonist. So, who can we expect?
It is speculated that She-Hulk’s finale will feature either Red Hulk or Hulkling. In the comics, the Intelligencia is responsible for the creation of Red Hulk, while in the show, a user named “HulkKing” is an active member of the Intelligencia.
Although the show has had quite a few villains, we’ve been waiting on that one big bad guy who will turn Jennifer’s world upside down. Let’s look into how Red Hulk and Hulkling could play into this.
Intelligencia and Red Hulk’s Connection
Ever since the first episode, the importance of She-Hulk’s blood and DNA has been established. In Ep 3, the Wrecking Crew attempts to steal her blood but fails.
Then, after pretending to go on several dates with Jen, Josh finally accomplishes this mission in Ep 7. With Josh being in cahoots with Intelligencia, it’s obvious that he took a sample of Jen’s blood for them.
As per the comics, Intelligencia is a group of sinister individuals who deal with sensitive information, which they can use to wreak havoc. They were also responsible for the creation of the evil Red Hulk.
While one of Intelligencia’s primary goals was to humiliate and discredit Jen/She-Hulk, it is possible that their bigger goal is to misuse her blood sample. In this vein, it wouldn’t be all too surprising if they used her blood to create Red Hulk, who may appear in the season finale.
Depending on what route the show takes, there are quite a few characters who could take on the role of Red Hulk—Thunderbolt Ross, Robert Maverick, or even Betty Ross as Red She-Hulk.
Intelligencia and Hulkling’s Connection
If you’ve been intently staring at the screen while watching She-Hulk, you may have picked up that one of Intelligencia’s key members is a user named “HulkKing.” The name is all too similar to another green superhero, Hulkling.
What you need to know about Hulkling: Firstly, he’s not a Hulk—born Teddy Altman, he’s half-Kree and half-Skrull. He took on the moniker of Hulkling because like the Hulk, he’s strong and green in color as well. An added power? He can shapeshift too, thanks to his Skrull origins.
Secondly, he’s not a villain at all! In the comics, he’s actually part of the Young Avengers and has never ventured to the dark side.
So it is odd that the show has a villainous user whose name is so similar to Hulkling’s. One would also expect Hulkling to be introduced in a project such as Secret Invasion.
Could this just have been a gross oversight? Has the MCU changed Hulkling’s origin story and made him a villain? Or, is he actually a spy nesting within Intelligencia?
The MCU has been quite liberal in its comic book changes and if they do bring on Red Hulk or Hulkling, I can’t wait to see how they do it!
