Loki’s third episode dropped on Wednesday, and the entire episode has been a chaotic chase where Loki and Sylvie try to save themselves from the destruction on Lamentis-1. I know, I know! You’ve come here to find out if Loki and Sylvie would die as the planet breaks and crashes into the moon.
But before I answer that, can we just address two things. One, I really can’t get enough of this new side of Loki. He is self-aware, considerate even, and does seem to have a warm heart. Two, the one-take sequence as Loki and Sylvie try to reach the Ark before it gets destroyed is all sorts of mind-blowing. It truly depicts the scenario – confusing and chaotic. I just can’t wait to see the next episode.
Let’s get back to this one. Will Loki and Sylvie die on Lamentis?
Though nothing is revealed, I believe neither Loki nor Sylvie would die in the third episode. They might either be saved by Mobius & the TVA minutemen or perhaps a third variant of Loki.
I’m sure none of you think Loki or Sylvie would die. That would be ridiculous because what and who would I watch for the second half of this insanely awesome season. Loki brings the insanity, Sylvie brings some sort of order to it, and after episode 3, I think Mobius is clueless about the true colors of the TVA.
But the bigger question remains: how will they make it out alive with the Ark destroyed and the Tempad broken? I have two alternate theories.
1. Agent Mobius Saves The Day
With Sylvie creating a burst of branches on the ‘sacred’ timeline, the entire TVA is now focused on resolving that issue. However, Agent Mobius’ biggest priority was this mission surrounding Loki and his variant. So there is a good enough chance that Mobius would be doing everything in his power to get to Loki.
Mobius already knows about the trick where Sylvie is hiding in events of destruction. So he could use that information to find out where Loki would’ve gone.
There’s another way where knowing Loki and his ability to escape whenever he pleases, and he might have had a backup tracking device in place, making it easy for him to track Loki. However, one problem I find with this is if he did have a tracking device, he would’ve been able to reach him in the episode itself.
So maybe there’s a way that requires some great detective and deductive skills for Mobius to reach Loki. So, if and when he does, he might arrest both Sylvie and Loki and take them back to the TVA.
2. A Third Loki Variant
There have been speculations about how there’s a third Loki variant that Richard E Grant would play as an older version of our Loki. I think now would be the best time for him to drop by Lamentis, charm Loki, Sylvie, and us with his enigmatic aura, and save the two.
Or perhaps it might not be as simple as that. A theory that’s making rounds on the internet is that the third variant older Loki might just be the Time-keeper. Okay, give me a second. I’ll explain it.
So, according to this theory, Loki has always been someone who’s had the ideology of ruling people, them having no freedom of choice, but he has always counted himself out. This is because the God of Mischief has always wanted to be a ‘King’ to rule everything.
Guess this just might be his lucky day. After Sylvie tells that all the TVA people are variants, we no more know what to believe, who the timekeepers are, are they even real, etc.
But we do know Loki and his lust for freedom and control. Is it just me who sees irony and hypocrisy there? But knowing him being mischievous almighty, his older version playing the third Loki variant might just be capable of doing so.
Perhaps this older Loki variant finds an interest in our Loki and hence wants to save him. So him being the man above us all will save Loki pretty effortlessly.
Though nothing of this sort has been confirmed, I know I’d be dumbfounded if that happened.
If that happens, does it make the older Loki, the better or rather the best Loki? Guess we’ll find out, and let’s not get too ahead of ourselves.
I know it’s a wild theory, but until I watch the fourth episode, my mind cannot rest until it finds answers. So let’s wait for the fourth one and get together for another conversation on theories and events of this marvelous universe. (Guess my pun game isn’t improving any time soon.)
3. About Loki
Loki is an American TV series created by Michael Waldron for Disney+ and Marvel. It is based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name and is set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with events of the series taking place after Avengers: Endgame.
Tom Hiddleston reprises his role as Loki along side new faces like Owen Wilson, Gugu Mbatha Raw, Wunmi Mosaku, Sophia Di Martino, Richard E. Grant, Sasha Lane, Eugene Cordero and Erika Coleman.
After stealing the Tesseract in Avengers: Endgame, Loki is apprehended by the mysterious Time Variance Authority (TVA) and their Time-Keepers. Loki is given a choice between fixing all the timelines he broke with the Tesseract and death at the hands of the TVA.
