Are Jon Snow and Daenerys Part of House of the Dragon?

House of the Dragon will premiere on August 21, 2022, and we can’t wait to watch it. Amidst all the buzz about the GOT spinoff, everyone has numerous questions such as:

Who will be in House of the Dragon?

Will Jon Snow and Daenerys Targaryen appear in the show?

What will the show be about?

Well, praise all the gods, old and new, for I’ve got you some answers.

Jon Snow and Daenerys will not be appearing in House of the Dragon. The show will take place 300 years before the events of Game of Thrones and follow the Targaryen dynasty’s rule and the beginning of its downfall.

What is House of the Dragon about?

House of the Dragon goes back about 172 years before Daenerys Targaryen was born. This was when the Targaryen dynasty was ruling the seven kingdoms, and dragons weren’t endangered creatures.

The show will have an overall premise similar to Game of Thrones, but it will primarily focus on the dragon riders’ family. The show’s plot is as follows.

As mentioned earlier, the show will mainly depict the fall of the Targaryen dynasty and lead up to the civil war known as the Dance of Dragons. After King Viserys I dies, everyone’s eyes are on the new king.

Now, there are two main contenders for the crown. The first one is the king’s daughter Princess Rhaenyra. It is her birthright to ascend the throne; if she does, she would become the first-ever Queen to sit on the Iron Throne.

However, the king’s brother, who is also her uncle, Prince Daemon Targaryen, aims to take over after his brother’s untimely demise. The politics, drama, and betrayal that ensues will be the tale of this show.

Why are Jon Snow and Daenerys not in House of the Dragon?

This part seems obvious, but let me say it anyway. House of the Dragon is a prequel. Game of Thrones focussed mainly on the Starks and the Lannisters as families. From the Targaryens, we only knew of Daenerys, who became one of the show’s most significant characters.

However, we still do not know the true power of her ancestors and the lineage that she comes from. In fact, the characters in GOT talked about the family and its dragons like they were extinct creatures and might as well have been if not for Daenerys.

House of the Dragon takes us back to the time when there were more of her kind. It depicts how they were the most superior family of all because of the possession of the ferocious creatures.

This is pretty much why we won’t see Daenerys and Jon Snow in the show because they didn’t exist at the time. Furthermore, considering Daenerys is presumed dead, we might not see more of her, even if there is a sequel to GOT. On the other hand, you might still get to see Jon Snow in another spinoff.

A Jon Snow Spinoff Series is in Development

George R. R. Martin had recently mentioned that a show for Jon Snow is being developed at HBO. The working title of this show is called ‘Snow.’ He told how Kit Harrington came to him with the idea and brought a team of writers and consultants.

Currently, Martin and Harrington are working together with their team of writers to flesh the show out. However, it is still in the scripting stages, and HBO hasn’t officially greenlit the show.

The studio will perhaps take a call on all other spinoffs after seeing how this one does with the audiences. Hopefully, we’ll get to see more GOT spinoffs and delve into the expansive universe again soon.
