Jason Sudeikis of Ted Lasso fame has recently also made his marvelous entry into Marvel movies. In Hulu’s latest Marvel animated series titled Marvel’s Hit Monkey, Jason Sudeikis has lent his voice to Bryce, Monkey’s ghost mentor in the show.
Bryce’s character is pretty interesting—he is the ghost of a former American assassin. He acts as the cynical mentor to Hit-Monkey, the protagonist who is a snow monkey out for revenge for the death of his tribe.
With Sudeikis being a part of the series, it’s hard to not wonder if he will also bless us with his presence in a live-action role. Or at least, he can return as Bryce, especially since the character got a lot of extra layers in the series adaptation and has potential to be explored further.
As of now, there is no confirmation of Jason Sudeikis returning as Bryce or as any live-action character in a Marvel film. We can expect him to appear in Hit Monkey Season 2, but it is yet to be officially confirmed.
Will Jason Sudeikis Return as Bryce?
There are already talks of Hit Monkey returning for a second season. Creators Josh Gordon and Will Speck have detailed plans for Seasons 2 and 3 of the season. So, in that case, we can expect Jason Sudeikis as Bryce to return in Season 2.
In Episode 8, Bryce and Monkey goes their own separate ways after both of them realise how bad he is as a mentor. However, since he is a ghost, there is no death for him once again. So, maybe he can make an appearance again in Season 2.
Nothing is confirmed as of now about Jason Sudeikis’s return as Bryce. But the relationship between Monkey and Bryce was one of the most beautiful aspects of the series. It would really help to have them back once again even if not for the whole season.
Actually, Bryce’s character was unnamed in the original 2010 Hit Monkey comics on which the series is based on. But in the show, we get to know a lot more about Bryce, his life before he became a ghost and what sort of a person he is (or was).
So, since this is all a result of creative liberty, we could hope for some more of it and a return of Bryce in Season 2 in some way or the other, no?
Will Sudeikis Make an Appearance as a Live-Action Character?
Jason Sudeikis has proved himself to excel as both a voice actor and a live-action actor now. His role as Bryce in Hit Monkey is not his first voiceover. Previously, he has lent his voice to protagonist Red for the Angry Birds Movie as well as its sequel.
I really don’t have to explain how great he is as a live-action actor, considering he recently won an Emmy for his performance in Apple TV’s Ted Lasso. Ted Lasso has also been renewed for a Season 3 and Sudeikis will expectedly be busy shooting for that.
We need to wait and watch whether he will make an entry as a live-action character in the Marvel universe (I don’t mean the MCU, since Hit Monkey is not a part of the MCU).
I guess it all depends on the on-going popularity and relevance of the character. Audience response and opinions can change a lot of decisions, so if the wind goes that direction, nothing is impossible!
About Hit-Monkey
Hit-Monkey is an animated series by Marvel and Hulu based on the superhero of the same name. Hit-Monkey first appeared in Marvel Comics in 2010 and was created by Daniel Way and Dalibor Talajić.
The Hit-Monkey cast stars Jason Sudeikis (Ted Lasso) as Bryce, ghost of the dead assassin-cum-mentor, George Takei (Star Trek, Mulan) as politician Shinji and Olivia Munn (X-Men: The Apocalypse) as Akiko, Shinji’s niece.
The plot revolves around a Japanese snow macaque, Hit-Monkey, who has incredible killing skills, on a quest for revenge with his mentor Bryce. The assassin was sheltered at Monkey’s clan, but the people after him ended up slaughtering everyone in the village, thus making Monkey swear upon revenge. Through the Yakuza underworld, Hit-Monkey will kill anyone in his path, while political drama unfolds in the bakground.
