How I Met Your Father has finally landed on Hulu, and the reboot has certainly caused a divide in opinion among fans of the original sitcom.
As it tries, often a bit too hard, to match its predecessor’s level, stars of the new series have revealed that there is an important secret callback to How I Met Your Mother.
The premiere revealed that Sid and Jesse were now living in the same apartment that stood witness to all the mishaps and shenanigans from the OG series HIMYM.
This detail established what we now know—How I Met Your Father is set in the same universe as the original show. Not only that, but seeing how Sid also owns a bar, it is safe to assume that Pemberton’s is just a renovated McLaren’s.
As fans keep on speculating whether one of the five OG gang members would drop by for a cameo, the new cast members have teased that there are certainly more Easter eggs coming.
Stars Francia Raisa, Tom Ainsley, and Suraj Sharma spoke to Screen Rant, revealing the addition of a top-secret scene. Their exchange went as follows:
I’m going to say as well, there is a scene that wasn’t even included in our scripts.
Tom
Yeah.
Francia
We weren’t even allowed to
Tom
Because we couldn’t know about it.
Suraj
We weren’t even to read the scene. I’m not going to tell you which episode it’s in. But when you see the scene, hopefully, you’ll understand why. But there is a scene that even we don’t know what happened in it.
Tom
Yeah. And there was another set that I was like, [GASPS!]
Francia
Show creators Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger recently talked about HIMYM, saying that fans of the original series should keep their eyes out for smaller references but also vaguely mentioned a Neil Patrick Harris cameo.
With Season 1 consisting of 10 episodes, it might still be too early for cameos. However, if just a simple apartment with two swords on the wall can invoke such hard-hitting nostalgia, an original cast cameo might prove to be very fruitful.
The first two episodes of How I Met Your Father are now available to stream on Hulu, with new episodes weekly on Tuesdays
