Here’s some news for fans of the hit American TV soap from the 2000s, Gossip Girl – the show is leaving Netflix and soon. So get your binging routines in order and get a good look at the show before it leaves for HBO Max.
Why is it leaving?
After a long stay with the streaming giant, Gossip Girl was purchased by Warner Bros for its HBO Max where the show will also get a reboot.
While the reboot is stuck for another year due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, it is expected to come out by March 2021. The show was on air from 2007 to 2012.
When is it leaving?
Now, since the reboot and the show would be expected to arrive at the same time on HBO Max, we are expecting another year’s time that Gossip Girl has on Netflix. After that, HBO Max will be its new home for a long time to come.
What is the reboot about?
For those who don’t know, Gossip Girl was created based on a novel series of the same name written by Cecily von Ziegesar.
The series, created by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, ran on The CW network for six seasons from September 19, 2007, to December 17, 2012.
Centered around Upper East Side New York, the show was named after a ruthless blogger’s website which was always watching the teens of Upper East Side and revealing all the gossip-worthy moments of New York’s young elite.
The show had its fair share of incredulous plots with a 16-year-old boy publishing in the New Yorker who is actually the Gossip ‘Girl’, 30-year-olds playing high schoolers, amazing school uniforms and wackiest threesomes among many others.
Meanwhile, the reboot will be set eight years after the original website goes dark and a new generation of New York private school teens are introduced to the social surveillance of Gossip Girl.
In the age of Instagram stars, bloggers and influencers, the prestige series will address just how much social media—and the landscape of New York itself—has changed over the years.
Original cast member Kristen Bell will return to narrate the forthcoming series, but very little is known about the rest of the cast.
Now then, there is a lot of time before the show finally leaves Netflix. All you binge watchers have been warned with plenty of time in hand.
